About the department
The Department of Gynecology at the Eilenriede Clinic Hannover offers the full range of services for the prevention, diagnostics and treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system. The team of the department's gynecologists pays special attention to preventive examinations, which help them to timely detect the pathology and carry out effective treatment. Of particular interest is the prevention of female reproductive cancers: uterine, cervical, ovarian, and vulvar cancer. The department provides counseling on female contraception. Doctors successfully use innovative contraceptives – the Gynefix® intrauterine device, which is an excellent alternative to hormonal contraception, and the Nexplanon implant. The medical facility has an outpatient operating room for minor gynecologic surgical procedures, including cervical dilation and curettage, colposcopy, loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), and endometrial biopsy. The department's specialists give preference to personalized medical care, so patients can be sure that the doctor will take into account all their needs and wishes. The department is headed by Prof. Dr.med. Klaus Goeschen.
The first-line treatment is usually conservative methods, in particular, pharmacotherapy. However, interventional procedures are often required as well. The department has a modern outpatient operating room, where surgeons successfully perform minor surgical interventions. The healthcare professionals often resort to cervical dilation and curettage. The first stage of the operation involves the dilation of the cervix using a special instrument, after which the surgeon carefully scrapes the lining of the uterus with a sharp-edged curette. The intervention is carried out under anesthesia, so the patient does not experience pain. Indications for the procedure include removal of embryonic remnants from the uterine cavity after pregnancy termination, treatment of uterine bleeding during menopause, removal of polyps or small neoplasms, and obtaining a sample of endometrial tissue for histological examination.
Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) is also part of the department's service range. The surgical manipulation is performed both for cervical biopsy and for removal of polyps, cysts, genital warts. In addition, the procedure can be used for cervical dysplasia and cervical leukoplakia. The total duration of the intervention is no more than 20 minutes. LEEP is performed under general anesthesia, so the woman does not experience pain or discomfort.
The department strictly adheres to modern hygiene standards, so patients can be sure of the safety of treatment. It is also worth noting the high competence of the department's doctors, who make every effort to save a woman from health problems and give her the opportunity to live a full life.
