Location

Hanover is the capital of the state of Lower Saxony. The city is located on the banks of the Leine River, at the junction of the Weserbergland mountain range and the Luneburg Heath. Today, Hanover is an economic and industrial center, the largest exhibition city in Germany.

Most of the sights were destroyed during the Second World War, and those buildings that you can see in the city right now are high-quality restored or newly built constructions. To have a comfortable acquaintance with Hanover, the so-called "red thread" was created. It starts from the main station and shows tourists the route that goes through 36 city attractions. The main attraction and pride of the city is the New City Hall. A beautiful building erected in the early 20th century is located on the banks of the city pond. Inside the City Hall one can see an exposition from the history of the city, its photographs, while from the dome of the City Hall with the height of almost 100 m one can admire the panorama of Hanover.

The downtown of Hanover also houses the magnificent Royal Gardens of Herrenhausen – a complex of landscaped gardens, founded by Princess Sofia. Equipped in the 18th century, this chic landscape park today remains one of the most striking examples of Baroque art in the world. In addition to ornamental plants, the garden is decorated with many sculptures and fountains.

The city also has many beautiful churches, the most impressive and significant of which is the Church of St. Aegidius. Especially popular among tourists is the Marktkirche Church, which is one of the oldest in Hanover. On the territory of the church one can find an amazing tower 97 meters high. The church building was constructed in the 14the century, but in 1852 its interior was completely renovated.

In addition, the city offers its guests excursions to the interesting museums, for example, Sprengel Museum, Museum August Kestner, Firefighters Museum, etc.
