The Department of Urology at the Helios Hospital Berlin-Buch offers the full range of diagnostics and treatment in this medical field. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Mark Schrader. The highly qualified urologic oncologist has received extensive clinical training as a Senior Physician and the Deputy Head of the Department of Urology at the Charite University Hospital Berlin, one of the most respected hospitals in the world. The specialist has over 25 years of successful clinical practice and enjoys an excellent reputation, treating thousands of patients annually. Of particular interest to him is the treatment of prostate, bladder, kidney, and testicular cancers, and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Prof. Schrader is a member of the European Association of Urology (EAU) and the Society of Urologic Oncology (SUO), and has authored over 130 publications, many of which appear in renowned international journals.
The department regularly demonstrates excellent results in the treatment of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, penile cancer, kidney cancer and bladder cancer. To fight against these pathologies, the doctors use the very latest endourological and minimally invasive procedures. Such interventions are sparing and guarantee a speedy recovery of the patient, minimal pain and a low risk of postoperative complications. The surgical treatment is often combined with drug therapy. In addition to the primary treatment of urological tumors, the department's doctors carry out chemotherapy and cytokine therapy for the advanced stages of cancer or relapses. The patients with prostate cancer metastasis spread to the bones can undergo palliative radionuclide therapy (in collaboration with the Department of Nuclear Medicine). If necessary, testicular tumor removal can be followed by testicular prosthetic surgery. It is worth noting that the department is recognized as the National Center for the Second Opinion in Testicular Tumors.
The therapeutic offer also includes the treatment of benign diseases of the male genitourinary system. The doctors have special competence in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, kidney stone disease and urethral stricture. If possible, the specialists are trying to solve the problem using innovative drugs. If drug therapy does not give the desired result, sparing endourological and minimally invasive procedures can be performed.
The scope of tasks of the department's urologists also includes the treatment of andrological problems in men. These include erectile dysfunction, penile curvature, varicocele, prostatitis, etc. In addition, the department holds special consultations for older men.
