About the department

The Department of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery at the ISAR Hospital Munich offers the full range of surgical procedures in its areas of specialization. Reconstructive and aesthetic breast surgery, reconstructive and aesthetic facial surgery, microsurgical reconstruction of complex defects of soft tissues and bones of the head, torso, and limbs, as well as body lift, occupy a central place in the clinical practice of the medical facility. The department has formed a highly competent team of surgeons with many years of experience in plastic surgery of any complexity. Personalized medical care with due consideration of the patient's needs is a priority in the department. This approach allows the doctors to achieve the best results. Specialists work with the very latest surgical techniques; hygiene and safety standards are strictly observed in the operating rooms of the department. Prior to any surgical intervention, the plastic surgeons of the department hold individual consultations with the patient to determine the best treatment tactics for him or her. The department is headed by PD Dr. med. Ulf Dornseifer.

The most popular group of plastic surgeries in the department is breast plastic surgery. Breast augmentation, breast reduction, and breast lift procedures are performed here. Of particular interest is breast reconstruction after a mastectomy, an operation during which the breast and surrounding tissue are removed. A mastectomy is one of the key treatments for advanced breast cancer. After the surgical intervention, women experience discomfort due to aesthetic breast defects, so many of them resort to reconstructive plastic surgery. The department's surgeons offer breast reconstruction using autologous tissue: the TRAM flap (transverse rectus abdominis muscle flap) and the thoracodorsal flap (latissimus dorsi flap). The department also performs operations to implant expanders and silicone implants. An expander is a silicone balloon whose volume can be increased by filling it with saline solution; it is designed to stretch the skin and form a pocket under the pectoral muscles for subsequent breast implant placement. The plastic surgeons of the department regularly perform reconstructive breast surgery using the above methods with excellent results. It is important for the specialists to achieve the most natural appearance of the breasts.

The modern beauty industry dictates its own rules, and more and more people are trying to conform to them. In recent years, a new trend has emerged. This is called "body positivity", which implies acceptance of oneself and one's body regardless of one's physique. Nevertheless, people strive for perfection, and in pursuit of a beautiful figure, they often seek the help of plastic surgeons. The department's medical team excels at performing body-sculpting surgeries, which are especially sought after by women. Plastic surgeons at the department most often perform body lifts, which are plastic procedures to lift the buttocks, thighs, and abdomen. The intervention allows for forming a slender silhouette as well as making sagging skin healthy and tightened. The duration of the operation is 4-6 hours, depending on the scope of the surgical intervention. The patient will need to wear compression underwear for 1.5-2 months after surgery. A hospital stay after the surgical procedure is 3-5 days. During this time, the patient is under close medical supervision.

Reconstructive and aesthetic plastic surgery on the face and neck is an integral part of the daily clinical practice of the department. Procedures such as blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, face and neck lift, mentoplasty, and many others are successfully performed here. The department has extensive experience in performing surgical procedures for scar revision in the face and neck, which can cause complexes and negatively affect a person's quality of life. The medical facility also offers wrinkle correction with Botox injections, hyaluronic acid, and Radiesse fillers, and other cosmetic procedures. The department specializes in reconstructive plastic surgery on the face and neck after removal of tumors, surgical treatment of congenital and acquired defects, and previous injuries.

The department's main clinical activities include the following:

About hospital

The ISAR Hospital Munich first opened its doors to patients in March 2008 and took a leading position among the top medical facilities in the city of Munich in a short time. The hospital embodies a progressive concept of international medical care: diagnostics and treatment are carried out using the latest medical advances, while the patient receives comprehensive care in a pleasant environment. The work of the medical complex is based on an individual approach to each patient and their clinical case.

The ISAR Hospital Munich has 12 specialized departments, each of which treats a specific group of diseases. The medical facility has particularly successful results in the surgical treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, heart disease, musculoskeletal pathologies, spinal conditions, and urological pathologies. The hospital has a large medical team, which includes more than 850 employees, including well-known professors in professional circles. More than 140,000 patients come here for medical care every year, which indicates the hospital's excellent reputation and a high level of trust among patients. The hospital has 250 beds.

In addition to having highly qualified medical staff, the hospital is proud of its excellent technical base, which largely determines the quality of treatment. In this context, it is worth noting the hospital's operating rooms, which are equipped with state-of-the-art devices. For example, the hospital has the da Vinci robotic system. Robot-assisted operations for gastrointestinal diseases are successfully performed with its help, and the medical complex is one of the few in Germany and Europe that can offer such treatment. The operating rooms of the Department of Spinal Surgery are equipped with the O-Arm intraoperative computed tomography system. This equipment allows for the highest accuracy and safety of surgical manipulations on the spine, because the slightest mistake may lead to disability. The O-Arm device belongs to the category of expensive medical equipment, so not every hospital in Europe can afford it.

The quality of medical services at the ISAR Hospital Munich has been awarded with many prestigious certificates, including the ISO 9001:2015 certificate, the IQM certificate, the certification of the German Society for General and Abdominal Surgery (DGAV) as a Center of Excellence for Minimally Invasive Surgery, the certificate of the German Society of Cardiology (DGK) for outstanding achievements in the treatment of acute coronary syndrome, the certificate of the German Knee Society (DKG), and others.
