Being a part of the Comprehensive Cancer Center CCC München, the Breast Center offers all components of modern breast cancer treatment. Its primary focus is on diagnosis and treatment of all benign and malignant diseases of breast in women and men.

With the range of services offered, the center ranks among the most advanced breast centers in Germany according to the current FOCUS-list and the head of the center, Prof. Dr. med. Nadia Harbeck, is one of the leading specialists in breast cancer in Germany according to the current lists of doctors (FOCUS, Guter Rat).

The center offers both conservative and operative treatment of breast cancer. The oncological day clinic of 14 beds, led by Prof. Harbeck, offers personal support with all modern drug therapies for patients with an early and advanced breast cancer. These include chemotherapy (pills, infusions), antihormonal therapy, antibodies and immunotherapies, bone-supportive therapies (bisphosphonates, antibodies), supportive drugs, complementary medicine and naturopathy.

The focuses of the drug therapies of the breast cancer:

  • Adaptation of therapy concepts to the tumor biology
  • Avoidance of overtreatment (mainly by chemotherapy) but also undertreatment in early breast cancer
  • The application of new multigen-tests and biomarkers to avoid preventive (adjuvant) chemotherapy after surgery
  • Availability of new promising targeted drugs in clinical trials in early and metastatic breast cancer

Furthermore, the center offers a broad range of operative treatment in early and advanced breast cancer as well as benign breast diseases. Special attention is given to 2 therapy options, namely the intraoperative radiotherapy and the hyperthermia. Since 2011, the center has been offering the possibility of intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT). Provided the appropriate indication is given, a part of the radiotherapy, which is usually performed afterwards, can be performed during the surgery in compliance with the current guidelines. The type of treatment is determined in the detailed conversation with the doctor before the operation.

Another option in the field of operative breast cancer treatment is percutaneous radiotherapy in combination with local hyperthermia in case of the chest wall recurrence of mamma carcinoma after prior radiotherapy.

The operative range of services of the center includes:

  • Biopsy sampling using minimally invasive approach (by using ultrasound, mammography or magnetic resonance imaging)
  • Open sampling
  • Marking of non-palpable findings before the operation
  • Breast conserving surgery
  • Mastectomy surgery (classic and skin-saving technique)
  • Sentinel node operation and classic axillary surgery
  • Intraoperative Irradiation (IORT)
  • Reconstruction with own tissue or implants as well as combinations of both methods
  • Prophylactic mastectomy with immediate reconstruction in case of genetic stress. As well as the removal of the ovaries in the same operation.
  • Plastic surgery in benign diagnoses
  • Interdisciplinary planning and conducting a surgery of locally advanced breast cancer
