Location
Heiligendamm is the oldest German seaside resort on the coast of the Baltic Sea. The amazingly beautiful town became the first German seaside resort intended for the nobility and high society. The town was founded in 1793 by Friedrich Franz I, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg. Heiligendamm is often called the "white town by the sea" due to the white row of houses on the embankment. The resort is famous for its amazing nature, pine forests, fresh clean air and sea salt. The town also has a narrow-gauge railway, on which the steam engine "Molly" runs from the cold spring in Bad Doberan. A trip on this vehicle is an unusual alternative and allows the travelers to feel the whole atmosphere of the old times.
In addition to the beautiful natural landscapes, Heiligendamm offers many interesting sights. The guests of the town should definitely stroll through the town center and admire the complex of buildings of the luxury Grandhotel Resort Heiligendamm, which honors long traditions of the resort. The hotel has its own beach and pier, park, bars and restaurants. In 2007, the hotel became the venue for the G8 summit. A walk along the luxurious sandy beach, as well as along the 200 meters long pier, which opens an amazing view of the town, also gives its visitors many unforgettable impressions. From the side of the Baltic Sea, the tourists can see classic villas of the 18th and 19th centuries, luxurious mansions, the ducal castle, colonnades, boulevards and an embankment.
Heiligendamm offers its guests peace, silence, the smell of pine needles and the sea, amazing natural landscapes and exquisite architecture. In addition, such wonderful cities as Rostock, Schwerin, Wismar, Kuehlungsborn, Bad Doberan are located not far from the resort. They can boast of a huge number of interesting historical and architectural monuments.
