About the department
The Department of Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology at the MEDIAN Rehabilitation Clinic Schlangenbad offers comprehensive rehabilitation programs for women after benign and malignant diseases of the reproductive system. Of particular interest is the rehabilitation of patients with gynecologic cancers, endometriosis, urinary incontinence and menopause. The Chief Physician of the department is Dr. med. Birgit Donau.
The department has been operating for many years, so it offers unique treatment concepts, which the specialists of the medical facility adapt to the individual needs and wishes of each patient. The highly qualified team of gynecologists, psychologists, nutritionists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and other specialists take care of the women's health. The department has a very pleasant atmosphere, which contributes to the speedy recovery of patients and their return to usual life.
The concept of rehabilitation treatment for women after gynecologic diseases is based on a comprehensive approach, which implies professional treatment of changes in the female body after a particular disease, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, as well as sessions with a psychologist (individual and in groups), pain therapy, counseling on lifestyle modifications and proper nutrition. Depending on the goals of rehabilitation, the patients may also be indicated various types of physiotherapy, occupational therapy and relaxation therapy. All these measures combined give an excellent result, eliminate pain, psychological complexes and restrictions in everyday life due to the disease.
The department is distinguished by its special competence in the rehabilitation treatment of patients with endometriosis (certified Center for Endometriosis). The disease is characterized by the onset of endometrial tissue outside the uterus and is often diagnosed at the advanced stages. The women with this pathology suffer from chronic pain. Endometriosis can also cause the development of infertility. In addition, the patients often have problems with fatigue, exhaustion and bowel problems. The goal of rehabilitation is to ensure the maximally possible engagement of women in all spheres of life and to maintain health in the long term. The department's doctors use the positive effects of sports and exercise in order to improve the mood of patients, relieve pain and stress, improve the functioning of the immune system, blood circulation and much more. The targeted physiotherapy and massage help the patients to strengthen muscles and improve blood circulation, which leads to better functioning of the internal organs, including the uterus, ovaries, bladder and intestines. Rest and relaxation are also beneficial.
In addition, the department's medical team successfully applies various rehabilitation measures to normalize the health of patients after gynecologic cancers, urinary incontinence, menopause, menstrual irregularities, chronic pain in the lower abdomen, etc. All of the above mentioned pathologies cause not only physical health disorders and discomfort, but also strongly affect the psychological state of a woman, cause stress, irritation and lack of self-confidence.
