About the department

The Department of Adult and Pediatric Oncology, Hematology, Radiation Therapy and Bone Marrow Transplant at the Medipol Mega University Hospital Istanbul offers diagnostics and comprehensive treatment of the full range of oncological diseases, as well as benign and malignant blood diseases in children and adults. The department is an interdisciplinary center, which treats patients with all types of tumors. The department specializes in the treatment of lung, breast, prostate, colorectal, esophageal and stomach cancers, melanoma, sarcomas, head and neck, brain and neuroendocrine tumors. The Chief Physician of the department is Prof. Dr. med. Fatma Deniz Sargin.

The department ranks among the leading Cancer Centers for adults and children in Turkey. All the very latest treatment methods are available for cancer treatment, including radiation therapy, chemo-, hormone and targeted therapy. To treat neuroblastomas and other neuroendocrine tumors, the department in cooperation with the Department of Nuclear Medicine successfully applies radioactive iodine therapy (MIBG therapy). Thanks to the interdisciplinary approach, long experience of the doctors and the use of advanced methods (intraoperative radiation, targeted therapy, etc.), the department demonstrates very high treatment efficiency rates.

The service range in hematology includes all benign (for example, iron deficiency anemia, vitamin B12 deficient and folic acid deficiency anemia) and malignant blood diseases (for example, acute and chronic leukemia, multiple myeloma, lymphomas, etc). The diagnostics of blood diseases is carried out with the use of the very latest methods. These include cytogenetic examination of bone marrow and blood cells, various types of lymph node and organ biopsy, etc.

In addition, the department is a recognized Bone Marrow Transplant Center. The transplantation can be performed for such diseases as multiple myeloma, lymphoma (lymph node cancer), acute and chronic leukemia (blood cancer), etc. The department incorporates the specialized Pediatric Center for Bone Marrow Transplant.
