About the department
The Department of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery, Hand Surgery at the Meoclinic Hospital Berlin performs the full range of surgical interventions in the areas of its specialization at the highest European level. Plastic surgeons perform surgical interventions to improve the appearance of patients who are not satisfied with a particular part of their body. In this case, clinical indications for intervention are not required. A team of reconstructive surgeons performs plastic repair of appearance defects due to congenital anomalies, previous surgical interventions, injuries and other causes. A special focus of the work of the medical facility is the treatment of hand injuries and diseases, including replantation surgery. Young patients can also receive medical services in the field of hand surgery. All the surgeons working in the department can justifiably be proud of their impressive clinical experience, and are also members of professional societies: the German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (DGPRÄC), the Association of German Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (VDÄPC) and the Professional Association of German Surgeons (BDC). It is extremely important for the department's specialists that each patient receives a top-class medical service and is satisfied with the result. The department is headed by PD Dr. med. Andreas Steier.
The modern world dictates new beauty trends, so more and more people decide on plastic surgery to improve their appearance. In addition, many people resort to the services of the department's specialists, wanting to get rid of age-related changes. Plastic surgeons begin the therapeutic process with an individual consultation, during which they ask the patient about his wishes regarding his appearance. Then the plastic surgeon offers the patient possible options for plastic surgery. The department's team of surgeons specializes in facelift, blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, otoplasty, breast augmentation, reduction and lift, liposuction, tummy tuck, body lift, and intimate plastic surgery for women. Whenever possible, sparing minimally invasive techniques are used during plastic surgery to minimize trauma to healthy tissues. The plastic surgery is preceded by a computer simulation of the expected result of the intervention. Thanks to such an approach, the specialists give the patient the opportunity to assess their new appearance even before the operation and, if necessary, repeatedly discuss the wishes and correct them.
Reconstructive surgeons strive not only to improve the appearance of the patient with congenital or acquired defects, after surgery for cancer or trauma, but also to restore the lost functions of a certain part of the body. The work of the specialists of the medical facility in this field is mainly focused on breast reconstruction in women after cancer, scar revision, removal of benign and malignant skin tumors and repair of skin defects, skin and soft tissue reconstruction surgery in all parts of the body, skin lift after rapid weight loss, microsurgical interventions for the reconstruction of nerve endings, muscles, tendons, etc. The specialists of the medical facility always strive to offer each patient the best individual solution to his problem. At the same time, the surgeons also take care that the result of the operation is as close as possible to the natural forms of the face or body.
The surgical treatment of hand diseases and injuries is also one of the priority areas of the department's clinical activities. The department's surgeons perform hand surgery in adult patients and children. It is worth noting that the Head Physician of the department, Dr. med. Andreas Steiert, has worked for many years in the best German university hospitals in this field, and therefore he has a unique surgical experience. The specialist successfully performs many hand surgeries, including microsurgical replantation interventions in children with severe hand injuries. The department is most often visited by patients with such pathologies as Dupuytren's contracture, rheumatic hand lesions, ganglion, trigger fingers, carpal tunnel syndrome, infectious hand lesions, malignant hand tumors, and so on. The team of doctors specializing in hand surgery offers patients comprehensive examinations for an accurate diagnosis, after which the treatment tactics are selected to achieve an optimal result and ensure a life without restrictions.
