About the department
The Department of Angiology, Phlebology and Endocrinology at the Preventicum Diagnostic Сlinic Essen provides the prevention, diagnostics and treatment of endocrine disorders, as well as diseases of the arteries, veins and lymphatic vessels. The specialists in the fields of angiology and phlebology are responsible for non-invasive diagnostics and drug therapy, as well as for interventional therapeutic procedures. The department's endocrinologists carry out both diagnostics and conservative treatment of endocrine disorders – pathologies of the thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, gonads and pituitary gland. The department is headed by PD Dr. med. Christian Berg.
The department's doctors are proud of their long clinical experience and excellent treatment results. The presence of an advanced technical base allows them to successfully detect the slightest pathological changes in the vascular system and endocrine organs, determine the exact causes of the disease and, accordingly, prescribe the most effective treatment. The concept of medical care in the department is based on an individual approach to each patient and his clinical case.
In the field of angiology, the department is especially focused on the treatment of calcifications in the carotid arteries, aorta, pelvic and lower limb vessels, as well as on the treatment of lower extremity peripheral artery disease. The department also often deals with the treatment of patients with vascular diseases: varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis, chronic venous insufficiency. The attending physician conducts a clinical examination, studies the patient's medical history and carries out the necessary diagnostic tests. The specialist then makes an accurate diagnosis and determines the most optimal treatment tactics. The first-line treatment is drug therapy, compression therapy (for example, for varicose veins) and other conservative methods. In the case of severe calcification, occlusive processes and vascular stenoses, the patients are indicated such minimally invasive interventional procedures as stent implantation, balloon dilation, etc.
The team of the department's endocrinologists deals with the treatment of patients suffering from diseases of the thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, gonads, pituitary gland, osteoporosis and other pathologies. The basic diagnostic examinations for endocrine diseases include laboratory tests to assess hormonal levels and ultrasound scanning. The patients with suspected osteoporosis require bone mineral density measurement. The therapeutic offer in the field of endocrinology includes drug therapy, hormone replacement therapy and infusion therapy. In addition, the department carries out special hormone replacement therapy aimed at slowing down the aging process.
The department specializes in the diagnostics and treatment of the following diseases:
- Angiology
- Calcifications of the carotid arteries, aorta, pelvic and lower limb vessels
- Lower extremity peripheral artery disease
- Circulatory disorders in the hands and feet (Raynaud's disease)
- Vasculitis (inflammatory vascular disease)
- Edema (lipedema and lymphedema)
- Phlebology
- Deep vein thrombosis

- Varicose veins
- Endocrinology

- Chronic fatigue due to endocrine disorders
- Osteoporosis
- Obesity due to hormonal imbalance

- Secondary arterial hypertension due to hormonal imbalance (Conn's syndrome, Cushing's syndrome)
- Other diseases

The specialist also deals with the treatment of thrombosis and other vascular diseases.
Dr. Berg is the author of numerous publications. He is a regular speaker at both national and international congresses. In addition, he is involved in teaching and gives lectures for medical students.
