The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rambam Health Care Campus under the direction of Prof. Lior Lowenstein provides the full range of gynecological, obstetric, and prenatal services, including prenatal diagnoses, management of high-risk pregnancies, ultrasound examinations, infertility and gynecologic oncology treatments. The Department has 90 inpatient beds, as well as 6 specialized units and research laboratories. It is one of the largest departments at Rambam with a team of 40 physicians and about 100 nurses.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, led by Prof. Lior Lowenstein, includes the Unit of Gynecology and Endoscopic Surgery, the Unit of Gynecological Oncology, the Unit of Ultrasound, as well as the IVF Unit and Sperm Bank. In addition, there is the Emergency Unit with an operating room equipped to carry out all gynecological procedures, such as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, open surgery and specialized procedures (e.g. vaginal reconstruction, reconstruction of the pelvic floor etc.). It should be noted that almost all operations can be performed laparoscopically thus ensuring a shorter hospital stay, less pain and infection risk.
The medical team of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rambam Health Care Campus is also actively involved in research activities in its field. The most noteworthy is a research for ceasing pregnancy during the first and second trimesters by drugs and early detection of asymptomatic DVT in gynecological oncology patients receiving chemotherapy.
The Department under the direction of Prof. Lior Lowenstein is especially focused on gynecological oncology. There are offered the latest diagnostic and treatment methods for malignant diseases of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, vagina and vulva. The physicians use unique methods of surgical and comprehensive treatment to achieve a high survival rate even in patients with metastases. The specialists also make every effort to preserve organs and reproductive function in women after cancer surgery. Moreover, the medical staff at Rambam provides not only high quality medical care, but also supports patients psychologically.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Rambam Health Care Campus has a long experience in IVF. There are offered numerous diagnostic and treatment methods aimed at eliminating infertility. Rambam is the only medical institution in Israel to provide IVF to the sick, as well as patients with hepatitis and HIV.
