The Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Rambam Health Care Campus specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer and blood diseases in children from birth to the age of 20. There are also performed bone marrow transplants. The Department is the largest one and the only of its kind in Northern Israel. It is headed by Prof. Myriam Ben Arush, an internationally recognized expert in pediatric oncology. It should be noted that the Department achieves a cure rate of about 80%, matching figures recorded in Western Europe and the United States.
The Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Rambam Health Care Campus is highly experienced in the treatment of the following pathologies in children:

- Soft tissue sarcoma
- Liver tumors
- Germ cell tumors

- Neuroblastoma and Wilms tumor

The children are treated in accordance with international protocols (The Children's Oncology Group and European Pediatric Oncology Groups). In the course of treatment the medical staff provides support services to critically ill children and long-term monitoring of children who have recovered from their disease. Apart from physicians and nurses, team of the Department under the direction of Prof. Myriam Ben Arush includes psychologists, social workers, art and music therapists, medical clowns and selected alternative treatment providers to make children feel as good and safety as possible during their hospital stay.
Bone marrow transplantation is among the main focuses of the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Rambam. There were performed over 400 bone marrow transplants. The Department also includes 5 separate patient rooms and 2 isolation wards equipped with the state-of-the-art air conditioning and air purification system to reduce the risk of infection from outside. There are performed all types of bone marrow transplantation: autologous transplantation (transplantation of patient’s own cells), transplantation of donor cells from relatives and transplantation of donor cells from an unrelated donor.
Furthermore, the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Rambam Health Care Campus under the direction of Prof. Myriam Ben Arush carries out numerous research projects in the field of blood disorders and cancer in children. These include a study of proteins that promote vascularization in tumors, a study investigating long-term side effects after chemotherapy and radiation in children who have recovered from their illness, a study on palliative care in terminal illness, a study on quality of life of children with cancer and clinical trials in targeted therapy.
