About the Department of Pediatric Nephrology at Rambam Health Care Campus Haifa
The Department of Pediatric Nephrology at the Rambam Health Care Campus Haifa offers the comprehensive diagnostics and treatment for young patients with kidney and urinary tract diseases. In addition to the treatment of acute and chronic kidney pathologies on an inpatient basis, the department provides outpatient services with the comprehensive counseling in all areas of its specialization. Thanks to the top-class medical service and high treatment success rate, the department has earned an excellent reputation nationwide. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Daniella Magen.
The department pays particular attention to the diagnostics and treatment of kidney failure. The department operates a specialized section, which carries out all types of renal replacement therapy, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and hemofiltration.
The department's nephrologists successfully treat premature and newborn babies with metabolic or genetic diseases of the kidneys, urinary tract defects. The scope of tasks also includes the preparation of young patients for kidney transplantation and follow-up care after surgery. Kidney transplantations are performed by a highly professional and experienced team of surgeons.
The department provides consulting assistance in the field of nephrology to other hospitals in the north and in the center of Israel. Moreover, the medical facility has extensive teaching activities, as well as many clinical and basic researches. The main purpose of the research is the study of genetic basis of hereditary kidney diseases of unknown origin.

Curriculum vitae
Since 2013, Dr. Magen has been serving as the Chief Physician of the Department of Pediatric Nephrology at the Rambam Health Care Campus Haifa. She also holds an academic appointment as Assistant Professor at the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine of the Technion (Israel Institute of Technology).
Dr. Daniella Magen graduated with honors from the Rappaport Faculty of Medicine and underwent her clinical training in Pediatrics and Pediatric Nephrology at Rambam. After participating in the establishment of the Department of Pediatric Nephrology at Rambam in 1997, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Molecular Genetics at the Laboratory of Molecular Medicine in the Rappaport Research Institute (2005).
Dr. Magen is a Member of the Rappaport Research Institute and the Institutional Review Board (Helsinki Committee). She was awarded several prizes, honors and grants, including the Exceptional Employee Award by the Rambam Health Care Campus Haifa, the Outstanding Lecturer Award by the Technion Medical Students Association, the Legacy Heritage (Morasha) Research Grant for Clinician Scientists by the Israel Science Foundation, and the Haim Boichis Award for Outstanding Research in Pediatrics by the Israeli Pediatric Association. In 2011, she was appointed as a Visiting Professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine as part of the Feldman Family Foundation program.
Dr. Magen's research is aimed at exploring the molecular basis of hereditary kidney and metabolic disorders among consanguineous ethnic groups in the north of Israel, with a special focus on inherited renal tubulopathies.
