About the department
The Department of Adult and Pediatric Dentistry at the Shamir Medical Center Be'er Ya'akov offers the full range of services to treat diseases of the teeth and oral cavity. General dental practitioners and highly-specialized dentists cooperate closely for the benefit of their patients. The department provides all types of dental treatment, ranging from basic procedures for tooth filling, crown placement and teeth whitening to particularly complex surgical procedures and dental implantology. The primary goal of the department's medical team is to provide high-quality dental care in compliance with the highest standards, to ensure an atmosphere of peace, comfort, and an individual approach to each patient. The department ranks among the leading dental centers in Israel and has an excellent reputation at the international level. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Dr. dent. Haim Doron.
The undeniable advantage of dental treatment in the department is the availability of the most modern equipment in dental offices, as well as special operating rooms designed for procedures under general anesthesia. The treatment of dental diseases under general anesthesia is carried out in the cases when a person suffers from dentophobia or when it is necessary to perform several complex manipulations within one visit. The type and dosage of general anesthesia is selected by specially trained anesthesiologists, taking into account the patient's medical history, clinical condition and planned intervention. The treatment of teeth under general anesthesia is preceded by a consultation with the attending physician, during which the treatment plan is developed and the necessity of intervention under general anesthesia is approved.
The department's specialists have excellent skills and successful experience in the field of dental implants, which are the only way to restore lost teeth or teeth with decayed roots. The absence of a tooth causes not only complexes associated with the aesthetic appearance, but also functional problems – impaired speech, chewing, etc. The department's dentists use high-quality titanium implants in their clinical practice, which are distinguished by optimal osseointegration. An important factor determining the success of the result is a sufficient amount of bone tissue at the area of implantation of the artificial tooth root.
Another department's popular medical field is orthopedic dentistry, which involves the restoration of teeth using crowns and bridges, prosthetics of the entire dentition, placement of removable dentures, teeth whitening and other dental procedures. All therapeutic manipulations are carried out in accordance with the current clinical protocols, using the highest quality and durable dental materials.
The specially trained team of pediatric dentists takes care of dental health of young patients. In addition to provision of quality dental care, a specialist working with children has the task to establish a trusting relationship with a young patient, to provide treatment as comfortable and painlessly as possible. This will help to create a positive impression of the treatment in the child and eliminate dentophobia in the future. In many cases, dental pathologies in children are treated with the use of nitrous oxide or "laughing gas" – a sedative that the child inhales through a mask on his nose. Laughing gas reduces anxiety and fear in the child, calms him down and helps the dentist to successfully perform long and uncomfortable procedures. Laughing gas is non-addictive and stops acting immediately upon treatment completion.
Dental treatment in children can also be carried out under general sedation. This type of pain relief is used in children with complex dental problems, behavioral disorders, as well as in children with special needs or young children. The department's pediatric dentists mostly deal with the treatment and extraction of milk teeth, dental fillings, teeth fluoridation for caries prevention and gum diseases, malocclusion correction with the help of braces, as well as provide preventive examinations, give recommendations on dental and oral hygiene.
The department's main clinical focuses include:
