About the Department of Gastroenterology at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center
The Department of Gastroenterology at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center offers the widest service range for the prevention, diagnostics and treatment of diseases of the entire gastrointestinal tract. It is the largest medical facility of this kind in the country and the only Department of Gastroenterology in Israel that the European Board of Gastroenterology and Hepatology has approved as the European Training Center. The latest technical equipment and the exceptional professionalism of the department's doctors form a solid base for the provision of high-quality medical care. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Oren Shibolet.
The department's specialists believe that the accurate diagnostics is the key to successful treatment results. The department performs many diagnostic tests, such as balloon enteroscopy, colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, gastroscopy, capsule endoscopy, confocal laser endomicroscopy, sigmoidoscopy, etc.
In addition, the department offers high-quality laboratory diagnostics within the specialized laboratories, such as the Laboratory for Digestive Enzyme Activity, the Laboratory for Helicobacter Pylori, the Laboratory for Biological Fluids, the Laboratory for Gastrointestinal Motility, etc.
The treatment of obesity is also within the department's competence. It provides nutritional counseling, physical exercises, group and psychological therapy. If necessary, bariatric surgery can be performed (in collaboration with the Department of Surgery).
