About the department

The Department of Plastic Surgery at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center offers advanced reconstructive and cosmetic interventions, which can improve the appearance and quality of life of a person. A competent team of the department's doctors pays particular attention not only to the aesthetic appearance, but also to the preservation of the functions of the human body. The cornerstone of medical care in the department is its multidisciplinary approach, which combines all the main medical specialties for the optimal assessment and treatment of complex clinical cases. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Eyal Gur.

The department's surgeons have excellent reputation in Israel and around the world, and therefore they are regularly invited to make presentations at international conferences, as well as to act as visiting professors in renowned facilities around the world.

The department offers not only inpatient, but also outpatient plastic surgery. The pathologists, radiologists and other specialists provide interdisciplinary development of therapeutic intervention using maximum amount of information and practical experience. This approach allows patients to save valuable time and contributes to the optimal treatment results. The high-tech equipment is also an integral part of high-quality and effective treatment. The outpatient surgical interventions include the removal of moles, cysts, lipomas, scar revision and resection of such malignant tumors as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma, as well as the Mohs surgery – micrographic surgery. Most surgeries are performed under local anesthesia.

It should be noted that the department's surgeons have special experience in the field of microsurgical interventions according to the Mohs technique, which is effective for the treatment of common types of skin cancer. According to numerous researches, the indicator of the effectiveness of treatment using Mohs procedure is from 97% to 99.8% in primary basal cell carcinoma, which is the most common type of skin cancer. The Mohs surgery is performed under micrographic guidance, which ensures an accurate removal of malignant tissue, while healthy tissue is preserved.
