The Department of Internal Medicine III at the University Hospital Giessen under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Schäffler comprises general internal medicine, in particular, endocrinology, diabetology, metabolic disorders and nutritional medicine. The Department offers you both diagnosis and treatment of all common and rare diseases in its fields of specialization, as well as an access to new drugs and treatments as part of clinical trials.
Both general and special endocrinology at the University Hospital Giessen consists of three main focuses: Pituitary Center, Thyroid Center and Center for Osteoporosis. The treatment of osteoporosis involves the use of kyphoplasty and drug therapy (injections of bisphosphonates). In addition, the Department under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Andreas Schäffler is part of the interregional Center of Competence for the Treatment and Support of Patients with Diabetes (University Diabetes Center in Middle Hesse).
