The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the University Hospital Giessen under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Rudolf Tinneberg is the center of maximum medical care. In the field of obstetrics, the Department offers all diagnostic and treatment methods. The females with gynecological problems can undergo all surgical procedures to treat them. Endocrine and reproductive medicine provides treatment for women with menstrual disorders, infertility and hormonal disorders.

In addition to breast cancer, the range of services in oncology at the University Hospital Giessen includes al gynecological tumors in the lower abdomen, such as vaginal cancer, uterine cancer, cervical and ovarian cancers. The patients receive both comprehensive medical care and nursing not only during the primary therapy, but also during regular follow-up examinations. In addition, particular attention is paid not only to the optimization of medical care, but also to an attentive human attitude. 

To treat breast diseases in women, the Department offers the entire spectrum of services, including neoadjuvant chemotherapy, sentinel node biopsy etc., and maintains close cooperation with different institutes (Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Pathology), as well as with the departments of the hospital (Radiation Therapy, Internal Oncology). 

In addition, the Department under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Rudolf Tinneberg specializes in urogynecology. The Department is part of the interdisciplinary Pelvic Floor Center Giessen. There are regularly conducted interdisciplinary consultations for the discussion of specific cases. 

The Unit of Prenatal Medicine at the University Hospital Giessen offers the full range of prenatal diagnosis (sonography, chorionic villus sampling, examination of amniotic fluid, fetal blood sampling) and treatment. The Unit closely collaborates with the Fetal Surgery Center.
