Specialized in: pulmonology
The Department of Pulmonology at the University Hospital Marburg UKGM specializes in the treatment of lung diseases. The most common lung diseases include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), bronchial asthma or pneumonia, as well as cancers (lung and bronchial cancer) or sleep-related breathing disorders. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Claus Franz Vogelmeier.
A key focus of the department is placed on the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the respiratory tract and lungs. These involve the use of the very latest diagnostic and therapeutic methods: pulmonary functioning testing, spiroergometry, last generation bronchoscopy, including endobronchial ultrasound, interventional endobronchial treatments for patients with cancer/emphysema (stents, afterloading radiation, valve implantation).
Particular attention is paid to the treatment of cancers. The department is equipped with the state-of-the-art technology for the diagnosis of bronchogenic cancer. The treatment program for each patient is discussed during regular tumor boards together with the patient and experts from other disciplines. This process corresponds to the latest level of medicine and individual requirements of the patient.
The treatment of patients with severe blood poisoning (sepsis) is among the most important objectives of intensive care in the department. The Intensive Care Unit has all current treatments (ventilation, replacement renal therapy, e.g. dialysis or hemofiltration, procedures for maintaining blood circulation, etc.).
