About the department keyboard_arrow_down

The Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at the University Hospital Marburg under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Susanne Fuchs-Winkelmann offers the full range of modern orthopedics, rheumatology and trauma surgery. The Department specializes in artificial replacement of all large joints (hip, knee, ankle, shoulder and elbow). Considerable importance is ascribed to the renewal of endoprostheses using joint replacement surgery, restoration of large bone defects and the use of special implants.

The range of medical services in endoprosthetics at the University Hospital Marburg includes i.a.

  • Conservative treatment of hip and knee osteoarthritis
  • Arthroscopy of the hip and knee joints
  • Primary hip replacement surgery (artificial hip joint)
  • Primary knee replacement surgery (artificial knee joint)
  • Replacement of the artificial joint (revision endoprosthetics)
  • Allergies in endoprosthetics - allergy to implants
  • Additional medical report in complex cases

In addition, the Department of Orthopedics and Trauma Surgery at the University Hospital Marburg has a special expertise in spine surgery. There are treated all traumatic spinal cord injuries, osteoporotic vertebral fractures (kyphoplasty and vertebroplasty), as well as spine tumors. Other focuses in this field include both diagnosis and treatment of inflammatory spine disorders, such as spondylitis / spondylodisitis, unstable injuries of the lumbosacral spine, pelvic floor, reconstructive interventions for the consequences of injuries with axial deviations, instabilities and disorders of bone fracture healing.

The Department of Orthopedics under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Susanne Fuchs-Winkelmann is part of the Marburg Comprehensive Cancer Center. There are treated both benign and malignant tumors of the musculoskeletal system. As a rule, surgical treatment can preserve a limb. Bone tumors often require the use of complex reconstructive techniques.

In addition, the University Hospital Marburg pays particular importance to pediatric orthopedics. This focus often deals with the treatment of foot deformities, scoliosis and joint diseases in children. Clubfoot can often be successfully treated with a plaster cast (Ponseti method). Thus, it is possible to avoid surgery.
