The Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden provides treatment and care of people with diseases of the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. The director of the Department is Prof. Dr. med. Gabriele Schackert, specialist in the field of neurosurgery. The Department has three operating rooms, where are annually performed about 2,000 operations.

The Department of Neurosurgery at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden deals with the research of causes of brain tumors, haemorrhages, nerve damages and epilepsies, as well as the development of new treatment approaches for these diseases. With the research results, the employees of the Department strive for the improvement of medical care and nursing efficiency. The Department has its private electrophysiological functional diagnosis and maintains close collaboration with the Section of Neuroradiology at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden in Germany.
