About the department
The Department of Neuropediatrics at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden offers the full range of diagnostics and treatment of all acute and chronic neurological diseases in children and adolescents. The doctors have state-of-the-art medical equipment and effective treatment methods, which ensures optimal therapy results. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Maja von der Hagen.
The department’s clinical activities mainly focus on the treatment of inflammatory and metabolic diseases of the central and peripheral nervous systems, neuromuscular diseases, epilepsy, neoplasms of the central and peripheral nervous systems, congenital pathological syndromes, as well as on the diagnostics of developmental delay, including particularly complex forms.
The department operates a modern EEG Laboratory. It conducts various EEG studies (for example, sleep EEG, long-term EEG, sleep-deprived EEG test), as well as additional studies, such as evoked potential recording and nerve conduction velocity test. Should surgical treatment be necessary, the specialists of the department work closely with the Department of Neurosurgery. The therapy of chronic neurological diseases is provided in collaboration with the Center for Social Pediatrics.
