About the department
The Department of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology at the Charite University Hospital Berlin offers the full range of diagnostics and treatment in its fields of competence. The department is headed by Prof. Dr. med. Angelika Eggert.
The department's doctors specialize in the treatment of malignant diseases of the hematopoietic system, benign and malignant tumors, congenital or acquired benign blood diseases and blood-clotting disorders (sickle cell anemia, thalassemia, hemophilia). The priority focus of the department's work is stem cell transplantation (about 50 transplantations annually). Since 2017, the department has been certified as a specialized Cancer Center, which indicates the outstanding quality of medical service.
All therapeutic activities in the department meet the requirements of the Society of Pediatric Oncology and Hematology, as well as other international societies in the field of pediatric oncology. The department's specialists are proud of their outstanding research activities. Of particular interest in this field are the translational and clinical examinations of leukemia, neuroblastoma and other embryonal tumors.
Special attention in the treatment of children with oncopathologies is paid to the psychological support of young patients and their parents, since the diagnosis of cancer is associated with huge emotional experiences.

The patients of the Charite University Hospital Berlin live in comfortable rooms made of modern design. Each room is equipped with an ensuite bathroom with a toilet and a shower. The standard room furnishing includes an automatically adjustable bed, a bedside table, a wardrobe for storing clothes, a table and chairs for receiving visitors, and a TV. Meals and Menus
