The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University Hospital Cologne in Germany was created from the merger of the Department of Orthopedics and the Department of Trauma, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery. While orthopedics mainly uses conventional methods for the treatment of congenital and wear-related diseases, trauma surgery deals with acute, usually accidental injuries and their consequences.

The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University Hospital Cologne has over 100 beds for the inpatient treatment. Furthermore, the Department has 4 operating rooms and is involved in the Outpatient Surgery Center activity.

The director of the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University Hospital Cologne is Univ. Prof. Dr. Peer Eysel. The team consists of 11 heads of departments and 21 assistants. There are also 4 units with beds and two outpatient departments. The Department maintains an active cooperation with other departments and institutions of the hospital in order to provide a top quality comprehensive treatment.

The Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University Hospital Cologne under the direction of Prof. Dr. Peer Eysel specializes in surgical and conservative methods of restoration and preservation of the injured organs and segments of the musculoskeletal system.

Within the framework of the Joint Replacement Center with the ultimate medical care, the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University Hospital Cologne performs operations for the artificial joint replacement, including the operations for the replacement of implants and infected prostheses. According to the recommendations of the Professional Orthopedic Society (DGOOC), the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University Hospital Cologne constantly strives for the improvement of patient health safety and health care quality at the hip or knee joint replacement with the prosthesis. Due to the outstanding achievements and a big amount of operations, the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology was the first one in Cologne to be certified as the center of the highest level of service in the field of hip and knee joint endoprosthesis replacement.

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
