The Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Preventive Medicine of the University Hospital Cologne in Germany under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Jens C. Brüning deals with all diseases in the fields of Endocrinology, Diabetology and metabolic diseases as well as preventive medicine issues. Through close, even personal connection to the Max Planck Institute for Metabolic Research in Cologne, we carry out both basic and clinical researches in these priority areas.

Medical focuses are e.g. hormone-related diseases and disorders, as well as saccharine disease (diabetes mellitus) in adults and children. Osteology is also an important activity area of the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Preventive Medicine. Osteology deals with the metabolic regulation of bones and other comorbidities. Furthermore, the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Preventive Medicine of the University Hospital Cologne in Germany, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Jens C. Brüning, maintains an intensive cooperation with other departments within the framework of the Thyroid Center.

The other important activity area of the Department of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Preventive Medicine of the University Hospital Cologne in Germany, headed by Prof. Dr. med. Jens C. Brüning, is фObesity Center MAGNUS (Center of Medical Obesity, Health and Metabolism).

The range of medical services in the Center includes an outpatient, multimodal program OPTIFAST, various common methods of bariatric medicine (gastric banding, gastric sleeve and gastric bypass surgeries) as well as a self-help group. Moreover, the Department provides both individual and interdisciplinary consultation services on obesity issues, which contain the discussions of indications and surgeries in case of obesity.

Patients rooms

The kid rooms have everything needed for a comfortable stay. The kid bathroom includes both a toilet and a shower. All rooms offer functional beds with orthopaedic mattresses ensuring unsurpassed support for overall body during sleep. There are bedside stands with pull-out tables, lockers and safe boxes in each room. It is also possible to access the Internet from a PC, smartphone or tablet so that kids always keep in touch with their parents and other family members. There is also a TV in each room.
You can opt for a single or a double room. An accompanying person may stay with the kid in the room. A double room is shared with another patient.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.

Meals and Menus

The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
