The Department of Hematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology at the University Hospital Dusseldorf  provides treatment of patients with blood diseases, cancer and immune system diseases. The head of the Department is Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Rainer Haas. The Department focuses on the treatment of malignant diseases of  blood, bone marrow and lymph nodes.

The Department of Hematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology under the direction of Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Rainer Haas has a variety of specialized laboratories for  basic diagnosis and further examination of hematological diseases. Other regional hospitals and private practitioners send materials for the examination to these labs as well. Modern immuno-cytological and molecular biological research methods combined with classical cytomorphology form the basis for diagnosis of all blood and bone marrow diseases. A special focus is on diagnosis of acute and chronic leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes, lymphomas and multiple myeloma.

The Department has a great experience in the field of bone marrow and stem cell transplant. Since the 80s this has been the second Department within the state of North-Rhine Westphalia, which offered such a therapy.  Since 1989 more than 1,500 patients have had their own or donor hematopoietic stem cell transplants here. The Department of Hematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology pays a particular attention to the further improvement of transplant techniqes and prevention of severe side effects. Therefore, the transplantation of blood stem cells can be also carried out successfully for both aged patients and those with comorbidities.

The treatment focuses of the Department of Hematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology include:

  • Acute and chronic leukemias
  • Lung cancer, malignant lymphoma, plasmacytoma, sarcoma
