The Department of Gynecology at the University Hospital Erlangen is one of the largest academic hospitals in Germany. The Department is characterized by a tight interaction of medical practice, exceptional research activity and multidisciplinary training. According to the Focus magazine rating of 2017, the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Mammology at the University Hospital Erlangen ranks among the top German departments specializing in obstetrics and breast cancer treatment!
The Department at the University Hospital Erlangen covers the full range of gynecology, gynecological oncology, specialized obstetric and perinatal medicine as well as gynecological endocrinology and reproductive medicine. Moreover, there are 4 outpatient clinics ensuring a qualified patient care. There are annually treated about 9,000 (partially) inpatients and 27,000 outpatients.
To provide the multidisciplinary, highly qualified medical care, the experts with various specializations maintain a close cooperation within the certified centers of the University Hospital Erlangen. These include the Breast Center Franconia (UBF), the Perinatal Center (UPF), the Center for Reproductive Medicine (UFF), the Center for Continence and Pelvic Floor Disorders, the Gynecological Oncology Center (GKF) and the Center for Endometriosis (UEF). These centers provide counseling in different disciplines, which enable the best possible treatment of various clinical pictures.
The Academic Breast Center Franconia at the University Hospital Erlangen offers a comprehensive treatment program to both men and women with all breast diseases. It is officially tested by independent experts. There are annually treated hundreds of women with benign and malignant diseases. The treatment program is based on the recommendations of specialists from the most different fields. These recommendations make up a basis for individual treatment programs developed within the framework of weekly cancer conferences.
Breast cancer is the most common diagnosis in women. Due to the ever-increasing knowledge of causes and characteristics of breast cancer, the requirements to prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up or rehabilitation are also increasing. The Breast Center at the University Hospital Erlangen under the direction of Prof. Dr. Med. Matthias W. Beckmann fully complies with these requirements. It is quite difficult to treat a patient with malignant breast cancer. To ensure both structured and qualitative medical care, all disciplines collaborate with each other within the certified Breast Center Franconia, headed by Prof. Dr. Med. Matthias W. Beckmann.
