Annually the Department of Otolaryngology at the University Hospital Tubingen provides diagnosis and treatment to about 40,000 children and adults. The medical director of the Department is Prof. Dr. med. Hubert Löwenheim. The Department has 64 beds in three stations and an intensive care unit. To perform various types of surgery, the Department has five operating rooms equipped with the most advanced equipment.
The Department of Otolaryngology at the University Hospital Tubingen under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Hubert Löwenheim has one of the largest Head and Neck Cancer Centers in Germany, the Cochlear Transplant Center as well as the intenationally recognized Research Center and ranks among the largest Departments of Otolaryngology in Europe. The task of the Head and Neck Cancer Center (ZKHT), founded in 2008 under the auspices of the Southwest Cancer Center –Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Tubingen, is to provide common standards in diagnosis and treatment of head and neck tumors. These include tumors of the larynx, pharynx, oral cavity (cancer of the mucous membrane of the oral cavity and tongue), tumors of the face (e.g. cancroid), salivary glands (e.g. parotid gland), nose and paranasal sinuses (e.g. maxillary sinus cancer), skull base, ear (e.g., temporal bone cancer), cerebellopontine angle and neck (e.g. thyroid cancer). There is also a number of outpatient and comprehensive outpatient departments.
