The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital Tubingen covers the whole range of prevention, dental prosthetics, orthodontics and oral and maxillofacial surgery. The medical director of the Department is Prof. Dr. Dr. Siegmar Reinert.
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery under the direction of Prof. Dr. Dr. Siegmar Reinert is located in a few centers: inpatient clinic for adults with modern and comfortable wards is in the Department of Trauma Surgery of the Professional Insurance Partnership of Tubingen (not far away from Berg Hospital), inpatient pediatric clinic in a new pediatric hospital (Berg Hospital) and an outpatient clinic in the building of the dental department (Hospital Tal).
The main tasks of the Section for prevention and treatment of teeth cover oral hygiene, pediatric dentistry, periodontal disease, endodontics and care for damaged teeth due to the accidents.
The main tasks of the Section of prosthetic dentistry are implantology (implantation of artificial tooth roots in the jawbone with the appropriate prosthetic care), full ceramic, metal-free restoration meeting the highest aesthetic and biological requirements, all kinds of prosthetics as well as treatment of diseases of the masticatory muscles and temporomandibular joint.
The Policlinic of Maxillofacial Orthopedics at the University Hospital Tubingen corrects malposition of teeth and jaw, disorders of the temporomandibular joint. In this regard the qualified specialists use the most reliable and modern medical equipment (removable, tight fit, transparent kappas Clear-Alinger).
The main focuses of the Policlinic of Maxillofacial Orthopedics at the University Hospital Tubingen cover cleft lip and palate, malposition of teeth and jaw, maxillofacial orthopedic treatment in early stages, rehabilitation of bracket plates after the tooth loss, orthodontic and maxillofacial surgical combined treatment and installation of “invisible” braces.
Other priority focuses of the Department include treatment and care of patients with cancer of the oral cavity, throat, lips and face skin. Together with the Departments of Otolaryngology and Radiation Oncology at the University Hospital Tubingen the Department of Dentistry forms the Head and Neck Cancer Center of the Southeast Cancer Center (Comprehensive Cancer CenterTübingen). The interdisciplinary patient care is provided in the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC).
