Christian la Fougère

Specialized in: nuclear medicine and clinical imaging diagnosis

The Department of Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Imaging Diagnosis at the University Hospital Tubingen offers a wide range of services in the field of innovative nuclear medicine and molecular diagnosis. The medical director of the Deparment is Prof. Dr. med. Christian la Fougère. Through the use of radioactive marked drugs (as well as radioactive indicators developed in the University Hospital Tubingen), there is carried out an effective targeted therapy since the applied radiation has a minimal depth of penetration.

In addition to the classical diagnostic methods of nuclear medicine, such as scintigraphy and SPECT, the patients of the University Hospital Tubingen have the most advanced hybrid devices and methods, e.g., PET/MR – PET/CT – SPECT/CT. They all allow to detect and localize the lesions of various metabolic disorders at different operations in the early stages.

The range of diagnostic services in the field of nuclear medicine at the University Hospital Tubingen includes:

  • Bone scan (skeletal scintigraphy)
  • Thyroid scintigraphy
  • Preoperative marking of the “sentinel” lymph nodes
  • Renal scintigraphy
  • Inflammatory scintigraphy
  • Ventilation/perfusion lung scan
  • Heart scintigraphy
  • Brain scintigraphy
  • Parathyroid scintigraphy
  • Gastric emptying scintigraphy
  • Bleeding scintigraphy
  • Lymphoscintigraphy

Furthermore, the Department under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Christian la Fougère offers numerous kinds of therapies:

  • Radioiodine therapy for benign and malignant thyroid diseases
  • Selective internal radiation therapy for primary and secondary liver tumors
  • PRRT therapy for neuroendocrine tumors
  • PSMA therapy for metastatic prostste cancer
  • Xofigo® therapy for prostate cancer with bone metastases
  • MIBG therapy for the nervous tissue tumors, such as neuroblastomas
  • Samarium therapy for certain forms of bone cancer
