The Department of Orthopedics König-Ludwig-Haus under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Maximilian Rudert deals with the diagnosis and treatment of all diseases and injuries of the musculoskeletal system. The Department specializes in endoprosthetics, foot and ankle surgery, sports orthopedics and arthroscopic operations, shoulder and elbow surgery, pediatric orthopedics, spine orthopedics, tumor orthopedics, neuro-orthopedics, rheumatoid orthopedics and osteology.
The range of services in the field of orthopedics at the University Hospital of Würzburg covers all conservative and surgical techniques, while the Department is primarily oriented at surgical treatment. Within the framework of various focuses, there are treated congenital conditions, degenerative or inflammatory rheumatic diseases, injuries or injury sequelae, as well as soft tissue and bone tumors. The Section of Surgery with 5 operating rooms is equipped with the cutting-edge technology in order to perform operations. Non-surgical treatment includes reconstruction of disorders of the musculoskeletal system forms and functions with the use of bandages, physical therapy and therapeutic gymnastics, as well as pain therapy by drugs and local injections.
Endoprosthetics makes up an important focus of the clinical activity of the Department of Orthopedics at the University Hospital of Würzburg. The Department of Orthopedics König-Ludwig-Haus under the direction of Prof. Dr. med. Maximilian Rudert is the first in Bavaria and the third in Germany, which was certified as the Center for Endoprosthetics of maximum care. The voluntary quality control confirms an excellent quality of hip and knee replacement. There are annually implanted over 1000 artificial hip and knee joints.
The Department of Orthopedics annually treats over 4,000 inpatients and 20,000 outpatients. The Department employs about 330 persons and has 123 beds, which are located in four different sections. 5 operating rooms are used for over 4,000 surgeries a year.
