How does it work?
The key is the injection of the stem cell or their sub products into the human body. Autologous cells are commonly used for that.
First of all, the doctor should make sure there is no any infection or inflammation in the patient’s organism. They are contraindications to the use of cell therapy. Otherwise, the patient is assigned with a course of different stem cell injections types. They are delivered in a specific combination, that is determined by the doctor. It also depends on the purpose of diagnosis and treatment.
The therapeutic effect comes in three phases:
1. Right after a course of injections, one feels a significant improvement in their condition.
2. After a few days, the defense system is activated and its resources are directed to the regeneration of the damaged tissues. This may be accompanied by unpleasant side effects - general fatigue, aggravation of the symptoms of the main disease. Discomfort will pass after 2 weeks from the beginning of cell therapy.
3. In a month, the regenerative phase begins, this lasts up to 6 months. The state of health gradually improves. The maximum effect of the therapy can be experienced after a 4-6 month course of injections. The results of treatment are stored for several years, although it is impossible to give an accurate prediction. It depends on the intended use of cell therapy, the clinical course of the disease, the patient's age, individual features of an organism, concomitant medication, and other factors.

About the department
The Department of Alternative Medicine at the Clinic of Advanced Biological Medicine in Frankfurt am Main under the direction of Dr. med. Gerhard Siebenhüner specializes in comprehensive integrative medicine and ranks among few hospitals in Germany, which offer numerous biological and integrative individual treatment concepts.
The main treatment focuses of the Department of Alternative Medicine in Frankfurt am Main under the direction of Dr. med. Gerhard Siebenhüner include:
Alternative cancer treatment
Alternative cancer treatments with regard to standard methods – chemotherapy and irradiation – are called complementary medicine and serve as supportive and additional methods of classical medicine. In particular, the focus is on activation of the body forces to fight against cancer on its own and to reduce the drawbacks of classical treatments.
The Comprehensive Section of Complementary Medicine at the Department of Alternative Medicine in Frankfurt am Main has been using holistic therapy for the treatment of cancer patients for already more than 36 years and is pursuing the following objectives:
- Boosting or restoring of patient’s immune system
- Increase the chances of recovery by means of “classical” medicine – surgery, chemotherapy, irradiation
- Prevention of relapses and metastases
- Alleviation of side effects after conventional treatments
- Improvement of the quality of life
Through a relevant complement of classical medicine by biological treatment methods, comprehensive therapy stimulates the recovery process and allows to achieve a long-term success in treatment.
An important part of comprehensive therapy
The Department of Alternative Medicine in Frankfurt am Main uses both alternative cancer treatments and classical chemotherapy as well as completes classical medicine by biological treatment methods.
The comprehensive treatment program is adapted for every patient and includes the following key elements:
- Potentiation Therapy (IPT)
The Potentiation Therapy (IPT) is a soft treatment method combined with conventional chemotherapy for cancer patients. The difference between IPT and conventional chemotherapy is that IPT minimizes side effects and at the same time increases efficiency of cytostatic drugs.
Through the potentiation of cytostatic drugs, it is possible to use smaller doses of these drugs, which are administered during chemotherapy. The action of cytostatic drugs is aimed at suppression of abnormal cell division and organism’s own cells are also affected at that. Such side effects of chemotherapy as hair loss, nausea and vomiting are also related to it. Due to the reduced dosage of the used drugs, these side effects can be minimized.
- Photodynamic Laser Therapy (PDLT)
In the field of alternative cancer treatment photodynamic laser therapy (PDLT) is an equally innovative and promising approach to treatment, which is used for the removal of malignant cancerous tissues. The patient is firstly injected with photosensitizers, which increase light sensitivity. This photosensitizer is accumulated in abnormal cells, which later die under the luminous radiation action. Since photodynamic laser therapy (PDLT) has no negative impact on healthy cells, it is used for not an easily accessible cancer localization.
Galvanotherapy, also known as transcutaneous electrochemical therapy, is a method, developed on the basis of the achievements of an Italian biophysicist Luigi Galvani. Cancerous tissues are affected by a weak direct current. The resistance of pathogenic cells is lower than in healthy cells and thus electric conductivity of cancerous cell is higher than that of healthy tissues. Sparing galvanotherapy uses right this physiochemical property. Therefore, adjacent healthy tissues or organs are not damaged because of their higher resistance in comparison to pathological cells.
The Department of Alternative Medicine in Frankfurt am Main regards biological cancer therapy not only as alternative, but also as an important part of cancer treatment. It is explained by the fact that natural biology is of paramount importance both in prevention and fight against acute complaints. Although conventional chemotherapy aims to kill cancerous cells, it also affects healthy cells as cytotoxin substances cannot differentiate between them. Within biological cancer treatment, methods of classical medicine can be used more accurately and with smaller doses. Usually healthy cells are not damaged and thus side effects are minimized and the patient goes through the treatment quite easily.
Possibilities for the use of biological cancer therapy
The efficiency of natural treatments without toxic side effects has already been proved by numerous clinics all over the world. Therefore, many doctors combine biological cancer therapy with the methods of classical medicine, if necessary. It can be used for the treatment of the following cancer types:
- Breast cancer
- Lung cancer
- Prostate cancer
- Pancreatic cancer
- Bowel cancer
- Rectal cancer
- Skin cancer
- Cervical cancer
- Uterine cancer
- Ovarian cancer
- Brain cancer
- Liver cancer (hepatocellular carcinoma)
- Spleen cancer
- Bladder cancer
- Stomach cancer
- Hodgkin’s lymphoma
- Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
- Vaginal cancer
A treatment program is adapted for every individual patient as the causes of cancer are quite different.
Individual, biological cancer therapy
Through the latest examination methods, the Department of Alternative Medicine in Frankfurt am Main offers its patients the individual targeted treatment. The results of the laboratory tests make up the basis for the development of the treatment with the minimized side effects. Moreover, the patient has an opportunity to test his chemosensitivity and thus to determine the most effective medical chemotherapeutic drug or an alternative biological anticancer drug. Whereas ineffective medical drugs are also eliminated. Furthermore, a team of doctors of the clinic under the direction of Dr. med. Gerhard Siebenhüner constantly controls efficiency of the treatment by means of the established laboratory parameters and it is a precondition for the achievement of the best treatment results. There can also be detected the most vulnerable parts of the body. The intravenous infusions, which were partially developed by Dr. med. Siebenhüner, are used to improve deficiencies.
The Department of Alternative Medicine in Frankfurt am Main uses the following infusions for cancer treatment:
- GcMAF therapy
- Chlorine E6
- High doses of vitamin C
The Department of Alternative Medicine in Frankfurt am Main uses various infusion solutions as support measures contributing to the main treatment. These solutions were partially developed by Dr. med. Siebenhüner. The results of Your laboratory tests detect vulnerabilities of Your body and then infusions are aimed at their elimination. The following infusions are used for cancer treatment:
Artesunate, which is extracted from the leaves/ wormwood flowers, has controllable side effects. These effects are not unpleasant. Artesunate fights against all types of cancer. As shown by current researches of the Heidelberg University, treatment of cancer by artesunate has proved to be positive.
- Vitamin B17
The so-called vitamin B17, which is also known due to its action, can be specified as a natural chemotherapeutic agent and has been used for cancer treatment for already a long time. Another action of its use is analgesic effect.
- Chlorine E6
Photosensitizer Chlorine E6, extracted from green cholera (Chlorella ellipsoidea Alge), is used in photodynamic therapy in the field of alternative treatment for malignancies. A peculiarity of Chlorine E6 is in its high light absorption in the red spectrum as well as in its specific molecular qualities, therefore, it is possible to make a targeted injection of the solution with Chlorine E6.
Since it is used in ayurvedic medicine, curcumin is especially famous for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic, analgesic and anti-cancer properties for bronchitis and asthma treatment as well as treatment of allergies, liver diseases, rheumatism, infections of the upper respiratory tracts and poorly healing wounds at diabetes and cancer. In India, where curcumin is a traditional product, the number of people suffering from lung, prostate and colon cancer is 10 times less than in the USA. And many experts consider curcumin to be the cause of this fact.
Sodium dichloroacetate (dichloroacetic acid) is an agent that has been used for the treatment of metabolic disorders, lactic acidosis for already many years. However, it is permitted to use it as a drug. Since DCA is involved into metabolism during the fermentation of pathological cells and it causes their programmed destruction. It has recently been used for the treatment of cancer as well.
The most important property of DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide) is its bipolar action, which allows to overcome barriers of the organism and to reach the cell nucleus. Pharmaceutics applies physical properties of DMSO for its targeted use. Moreover, DMSO binds and neutralizes free radicals, which later come out through the kidneys. At the cellular level DMSO promotes cell detoxification, has anti-inflammatory action, boosts the immune system and inhibits the growth of bacteria. DMSO as well as DCA has a positive effect on mitochondria.
Hypercirin obtained from St. Jon’s wort (lat. Hypericum perforatum), is an effective natural photosensitizer, which is used in photodynamic therapy (PDT) for cancer treatment.
- High doses of vitamin C
To damage cancer cells, the Department of Alternative Medicine uses pro-oxidant action of high doses of vitamin C, which destroys abnormal cells and does not cause harm to the healthy cells. Such a method is called biological chemotherapy and large American hospitals combine classical chemotherapy with high doses of vitamin C. A prerequisite for this therapy is the presence of a sufficient amount of G6PDH enzyme in the patient’s blood. The specialists of the Clinic check it in the internal laboratory before the treatment.
- GcMAF treatment
GcMAF therapy (macrophage activating factors) is an immune therapy, which is often used for the treatment of such severe diseases as cancer. GcMAF activates the immune system and helps the organism to detect abnormal cells and to kill them on its own.
Hyperthermia is a method for cancer treatment, when efficiency of the “classical” treatment methods, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy is increased due to the overheating of cancer cells and thus a synergistic effect is achieved. The hyperthermia treatment covers all methods of targeted, controllable overheating of certain body parts.
Hyperthermia treatment – heat against cancer
Hyperthermia was described as the cancer treatment method in 1910 and in 60s it was discovered again in the form of the whole body hyperthermia. During this time both methods and hardware technologies have been considerably modified and therefore the Department of Alternative Medicine has a more targeted use of this method. In fact, the concept “hyperthermia” (Greek “overheating”) describes the functional principle of this method. Cancer cells are more susceptible to heat than healthy cells and thus the patient benefits from a few treatment effects: not only cancer cells are destroyed, but tumor tissue is better supplied with blood. This tissue becomes more sensitive to a better action of drugs and irradiation. As a rule, hyperthermia is combined with chemo- and/or radiation therapy. The dose of cytostatic drugs can be reduced because of increased efficiency. There is also decreased an ability to restore cancer cell damaged by hyperthermia. Therefore, the effect of radiation therapy is more obvious. Furthermore, the tumors, which were insusceptible to chemo-and radiation therapy, after the hyperthermia treatment can be damaged by this kind of therapy again. And ultimately such side effects as hair loss and nausea as well as related physical and psychological complaints are considerably reduced.
Types and action of hyperthermia
The essence of hyperthermia is to block a regenerative function of cancer cells. Chemo- or radiation therapy does harm to the genome of cancer cells and afterwards regenerative enzymes try to eliminate the harm caused to genome. At the temperature of 40 °C enzymes cease to function and thus damaged cancer cells die.
The Department of Alternative Medicine specializes in the following focuses:
- Local hyperthermia
- Prostate hyperthermia
- Whole body hyperthermia
To ensure a good result after hyperthermia, it is necessary to heat the whole tumor tissue equally. At the temperature of 40 °C there appear heat shock proteins, which activate the immune system and send tissues of the immune system to destruct new cancer cells selectively. Moreover, they mark cancer cells and they make them recognizable for the killer cells of the immune system. At the temperature of over 42 °C cancer cells enter into a state of apoptosis in large quantities and die (programmed cell death). The cancer cells, which are generally stable and are not affected by rays, become very susceptible to heat.
A complex and natural Regeneresen therapy, developed by Prof. Dr. Dyckerhoff, consists of solely active animal ribonucleic acids (RNA) and ribonucleic acids of yeast. Regeneresen drugs containing nucleic acids have a positive effect on metabolic processes of both immune and hormonal systems and stimulate the organism to produce its own nucleic acids. The aging processes are accompanied by the loss of the organism’s own nucleic acids. The injections of ribonucleic acids, obtained from bovine serum or yeast, have already been used for decades. The ribonucleic acids (RNA) play a key role in protein synthesis – on one side, as an information carrier of each protein structure, on the other, as construction material for the important cellular structures as well as the instruments in the course of the protein synthesis. The recent studies also show involvement of low-molecular nucleic acids in the protein synthesis modulation. Generally, Regeneresen can be compared with the previously used conventional treatment by fresh cells.
What is Regeneresen®?
Regeneresen® includes only biological active ribonucleic acids (RNA). An active agent is extracted from the organs of cattle and from yeast. The result is a pure sodium salt of ribonucleic acids (RNA-Na). The whole treatment program is based on nucleic acids from various organs, which are interrelated by orthomolecular substances. RNA containing special substances and information about the affected organs or organ systems can also be targetedly injected as Regeneresen. The special nuclein-containing extracts for various organs help to restore impaired cellular metabolism and serve for a comprehensive treatment of chronic and degenerative diseases. One more effect of Regeneresen therapy is minimization of allergies and vulnerability to the infections as the organism’s ability of self-protection is increased. Regeneresen has a very versatile application area as it is used for different organs.
Indications for Regeneresen therapy:
- Degenerative diseases
- Chronic diseases
- Cardiovascular diseases
- Impaired circulation
- Immune disorders
- Liver diseases
- Neurological diseases
- Skin diseases
- Injuries of the intervertebral discs
- Eye diseases
While treating chronic and degenerative diseases by means of regenerative therapy, a key prerequisite for the successful outcome is to treat their causes but not symptoms. The Department of Alternative Medicine has a wide range of revitalizing and regenerative procedures aimed at mobilization of the organism’s own forces. Various injections and treatments can stimulate functioning of separate organs immunologically. Thus, chronic complaints can be treated by the targeted therapy.
Treatment of chronic diseases
- Treatment of arthrosis
Photodynamic laser therapy (PDLT) allows to treat arthrosis. It relieves pains, improves motor skills and stimulates recovery (building-up) of muscles. The field of application: arthrosis of knee, hip, ankle joints, chronic shoulder instability, Hallux valgus.
The Department of Alternative Medicine provides a modern proven technique hydrocolonotherapy, which involves washing of colon with the tempered water. Since the specially trained staff carries out a thorough cleaning of the intestine, all solidified masses come out of the organism. A natural intestinal peristalsis is restored after the treatment.
- Eye acupuncture
Eye acupuncture, which was adapted from the traditional Chinese as well as comprehensive medicine, aims to stimulate certain points. Thus, there is provided treatment or a considerable improvement of acute conjunctivitis, inflammation, retinal changes (retinitis), macular degeneration, iris inflammation or dry eye syndrome.
- Ozone-oxygen therapy
Ozone is active oxygen. The Department of Alternative Medicine makes ozone injections intramuscularly, subcutaneously or intravenously. When ozone is injected into the human body, it aids to clean the liver, lowers unhealthy cholesterol and triglycerides, stimulates intracellular metabolism, has a positive effect on circulatory disorders. It is also effective against thromboses and protects the organism against harmful bacteria, viruses and fungi.
- Oxygen therapy
The Department of Alternative Medicine offers You intravenous oxygen therapy provided according to the time-proved system of Dr. med. Regelsberger. The oxygen therapy relieves many symptoms and can be used for the treatment of various clinical pictures: control of hypertension, migraines, allergies, chronic sinusitis, asthma etc.
- Removal of heavy metals
Apheresis is an innovative method for blood purification. This treatment method, which is used in the Department of Alternative Medicine, filters and cleans blood serum from certain toxic and inflammatory components. Apheresis procedure is similar to dialysis, however, it purifies blood in a slightly different way.
Types of regenerative therapy
The Department of Alternative Medicine in Frankfurt has a variety of methods to provide detoxification, which is specially adapted to Your indications and promotes Your recovery. Along with numerous special infusions, hydrocolonpotherapy (mild purgation) makes up a basis for detoxification. Hydrocolonotherapy is especially recommended for the treatment of infections, rheumatism, neurodermatitis, acne, migraines, allergies, skin problems, bloats, depressions and anergy. Moreover, hydrocolonotherapy is recommended for cancer treatment as it releases the organism from harmful substances.
Deacidification reduces or even kills such complaints as atherosclerosis, problems with intervertebral discs, hypertension, depressions, diabetes, hair loss, caries, neurodermitis, irritable bowel, sweating feet, wrinkles, excess weight, cellulite and bad mood.
- Special diet
The goal of different diets is to mobilize self-recovery forces of Your organism and to slow down the growth of abnormal cells. These include Johanna Budwig diet, Gerson diet, ketogenic diet, Breuss diet.
The objective of psycho-oncology is to help You to sustain a long-lasting effect due to the emotional stress caused by the disease.
Apheresis / innovative blood purification
Apheresis involves an innovative blood purification. This blood purification method, which is used in the Department of Alternative Medicine, filters and cleans blood serum from certain toxic or inflammatory components. Apheresis procedure is similar to dialysis, however, it purifies blood in a slightly different way. The apheresis treatment is well tolerated.
Removal of harmful substances from blood by apheresis
The term apheresis comes from Greek and means “to take away” or “to remove”. The blood donors, who have already donated platelets or plasma, should have an idea what apheresis procedure is.
Blood sampling is made via a venous access with the use of anticoagulants. Then the patient’s blood components (plasma and solid blood components) are separated from each other in the extracorporeal cycle, which is the so-called plasma separation. There are used special plasma separators of the membrane type. A necessary part of plasma is purified. Afterwards the purified plasma is combined with the solid blood components (red and white blood cells and platelets) and ultimately flows back into the patient’s body via the second access. The therapeutic effect of apheresis lies in the selective removal of toxic substances and pathogens, i.e. causing protein diseases and metabolic products. The blood purification restores a healthy balance of different processes in the organism.
The apheresis has a significant impact on the basic body health.
Various therapeutic methods of apheresis
The apheresis is used to treat causes of the diseases from the following areas:
- Rheumatic diseases
- Impaired lipid metabolism
- Chronic and acute diseases of the immune system
- Autoimmune diseases
- Accumulation of heavy metals
- Diabetic foot syndrome, which is resistant to other types of therapy
- Age-related macular degeneration (AMD)
- Sudden hearing loss
- Multiple sclerosis
- Ulcerative colitis
- Crohn’s disease
- Dilated cardiomyopathy
There are available different kinds of treatment procedures for the apheresis. These procedures are selected according to the clinical picture. For example, to treat autoimmune diseases, there is usually used the so-called plasmapheresis, which firstly separates plasma from blood cells. Later the separated blood plasma goes through the special filters – plasma separators in order to eliminate the substances that cause diseases. The procedure of nonspecific plasmapheresis is carried out quite differently. In this case the separate blood plasma is removed and there is used a complex substitute instead of it. Generally, apheresis does not involve a considerable reduction of electrolytes and important immune bodies.
Since apheresis is well tolerated, it can be performed in the Department of Alternative Medicine on the outpatient basis.
Stem cell therapy
A human body has a certain number of ordinary cells and those that can be transformed in the process of ontogeny in accordance with a specific situation. With age, the amount of this reserve decreases, which explains the progression of many diseases.
The most spectacular example of the qualitative work of the organism at the cellular level is a bone fracture at the age of 10 and 60 years. If in the first case the bone grows together for 1-1,5 months, then in the second it might take several years.
Stem cells are precursors of all our body cells with no exception. While dividing, they are able to create the specialized cells that make up the muscular, epithelial, neural or connective tissues. What cell exactly they will become depends on the stem cell cultivation conditions.
What can be treated with stem cells?
This therapy can be used for the treatment of different diseases and conditions related to the lesion of the internals, connective tissue, nervous system, endocrine glands. Here is a list of pathologies, in which it is reasonable to use this treatment method:
- Immunodeficiency conditions
- Cardiovascular system pathology (ischemic heart disease, myocardial infarction)
- Extremity, cerebrovascular atherosclerosis
- Multiple sclerosis
- Alzheimer's disease
- Parkinson's disease
- Oncopathology (combined with other methods to improve treatment tolerability, increase remission duration and chemotherapy effectiveness)
- Spinal pathology (intervertebral hernia, osteochondrosis)
- Reduced activity of any endocrine glands
- Diabetes mellitus and its complications (neuropathy, micro- and macroangiopathy)
- Erectile dysfunction
- Kidney pathology
- Chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract
Cell therapy is used not only to treat diseases. It is used to achieve specific medical goals that can be set in different diagnoses. Cell therapy may be used for:
• Body tone improvement – in the case of asthenic syndrome
• Immunity stimulation
• Accelerated rehabilitation after injuries, surgeries, severe illnesses
• Premature aging prevention
• Increased mental performance (while experiencing first signs of developing dementia)
• In depression, burnout syndrome, mental exhaustion
• To restore normal menstrual cycle or eliminate the menopausal symptoms in women
When used for all the above-mentioned conditions, cell therapy may very well prove to be highly effective. New ways, where the use of this innovative method could be applied, are being developed constantly.
How safe will the treatment be?
Cell therapy is a completely safe method of treatment. Contraindications to its use are only inflammatory processes in the active phase and acute infectious diseases.
Possible side effects:
- Redness at the injection site, which resolves on its own within 1-3 days
- Weakness for first 2 weeks after the injection and exacerbation of chronic disease symptoms
- Increased body temperature during the first days of therapy (in this case, you should see a doctor).
Cell therapy is not characterized with irreversible or delayed side effects. This is due to the fact that the patient's own cells are used for treatment.
Stem cell therapy procedure
As a preparation, there is conducted a special program, which allows increasing the number of stem cells in the body. It is based on the use of natural substances and is absolutely harmless to the body.
On the first day, the clinic provides a detailed examination of the patient, within which a detailed explanation of the planned therapy method and the optimal technique is conducted as well.
On the second day, depending on the chosen technique, stem cells are taken from the bone marrow by means of the iliac crest puncture or their isolation from adipose tissue.
Afterwards, in accordance with the developed method of stem cell treatment, specialists sample stem cells directly from the patient's bone marrow under laboratory conditions, and then test them for HIV infection, cytomegalovirus, as well as for hepatitis C and B. This is followed by the calculation of the amount of received stem cells and verification of their degree of viability.
If the suspension meets all conditions, it is considered suitable for the reimplantation — the next step, which is part of the general procedure of stem cell treatment. The patented method guarantees both optimal quality and sterility of the material, which ensures the best result. As a rule, reimplantation is carried out two days later with the use of various techniques, depending on the type of disease to be treated.
Both location and method of reimplantation (in other words, the return of extracted stem cells into the body) depends on the patient's disease. For example, intravenous administration of the material allows it to be evenly distributed throughout the body — this reimplantation technique is used for multiple sclerosis, various vascular diseases, spinal cord injuries, stroke.
Angiography (injection of stem cell suspension into a specific organ through a catheter) is a method of point reimplantation, which is used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus and the consequences of a heart attack.
Lumbar puncture is a technique (similar to myelography), in which stem cells are injected into the spinal canal at the level of the lumbar vertebrae. Lumbar puncture is used to treat diseases of the spinal cord and the spinal nerve pathology. In particularly severe cases, stem cell therapy is provided by a direct surgical intervention — concentrate injected directly into the damaged tissue of the organ. Such an operation is performed only under general anesthesia.
