About the department
The Department of Dermatology at the University Hospital Essen offers the full range of medical services for the diagnostics and treatment of skin, sexually transmitted diseases, and allergic reactions. The Chief Physician of the department is Prof. Dr. med. Dirk Schadendorf.
The key clinical focus is the therapy of benign and malignant skin tumors. Particular attention is also paid to cosmetic dermatology, for example, keloid scar revision, removal of pigment spots, spider veins, etc. The department treats about 2,700 inpatients and 49,500 outpatients every year. Thus, the department ranks among the largest and leading German medical facilities of this kind.
A competent medical team of 24 doctors and 33 nurses takes care of the patients’ health. All the employees aim to provide each patient with a comprehensive diagnostics and treatment based on an interdisciplinary approach and the very latest achievements of modern medicine. The department is equipped with progressive laser and phototherapeutic devices, which allow to carry out the effective and sparing treatment of many skin lesions.

The standard room furnishing includes an automatically adjustable bed, a bedside table, a personal wardrobe, a personal call button with a built-in light panel, a telephone, a TV and a radio. Meals and Menus
The patients of the hospital are offered a daily choice of three menus. The patients are also offered alternative types of menus, if their religion requires the exclusion of certain foods. If you follow a certain diet or suffer from food intolerance, you will be provided with a menu of your choice by discussing it with your attending physician in advance.
