Hospital Gummersbach Oberberg
Department of Ophthalmology (284601)
Specialized in: ophthalmology
The Department of Ophthalmology at the Hospital Gummersbach Oberberg under the direction of Dr. med. Ludger Henke has been working since 1994. The department performs about 1,000 surgical procedures per year.
The range of medical services of the department includes:
- Surgical treatment of cataract
- Surgical treatment of glaucoma, strabismus, cornea, refractive surgery
- Corneal transplantation
Also, there are performed cosmetic surgical interventions and operations on the lacrimal passages.
Another focus of the department is placed on ophthalmologic diagnosis of premature infants. The department specializes in cataract surgery, which is performed by means of phacoemulsification (special ultrasound technique) and with the use of the technique involving minimal incisions. Cataract surgery is provided both on an outpatient and inpatient basis. Foldable intraocular lens implants enable the smallest surgical incisions and the best optical rehabilitation.
Refractive surgery aims to eliminate severe visual defects. The implants (intraocular contact lenses, intraocular lenses fixed in the iris), which are often combined with the most advanced laser technology (LASIK, Excimerlaser) can correct the most severe visual defects.
Digital flourescein angiography enables an accurate diagnosis before the treatment, especially in case of diabetic changes in the cornea and circulatory disorders (macular degeneration, thrombosis and embolism).
