About the department
The Department of Gynecology, Mammology and Obstetrics at the Hospital Freising provides the full range of medical services in its areas of specialization. The healthcare facility offers all conservative and surgical methods for treating diseases of the female reproductive system and female breast. The central place in clinical practice is given to surgery for uterine cancer, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, vulvar cancer, as well as breast malignancies. Breast cancer is treated by experienced specialists from the Breast Center, which is certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 standards. The department's team of gynecologists also has excellent qualifications in the surgical treatment of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. In addition, doctors at the medical facility specialize in reconstructive plastic surgery on the external female genital organs. They perform hymenoplasty (surgery to repair the hymen), labiaplasty (surgery to correct the size and shape of the labia), and other surgical procedures. The department annually treats more than 1,500 patients with gynecological conditions and breast diseases. The medical facility has 30 beds. The department's pride is its modern maternity wards, where more than 1,000 children are born every year. The department's team of obstetricians provides comprehensive pregnancy management, ranging from ultrasound screening of the 1st trimester to painless childbirth with subsequent care for the mother and newborn child. The department is headed by Dr. med. Dario Vincenti.
The department's team of gynecologists is highly professional in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of the female reproductive system. Cervical, ovarian, and endometrial cancers are the most commonly encountered oncological diseases in the clinical practice of physicians. Should oncology be suspected, the patient will undergo a comprehensive examination, including laboratory tests, instrumental diagnostics, imaging tests, and a biopsy with the subsequent histological examination of the material. With comprehensive diagnostic data in hand, gynecologists, together with oncologists (if necessary, doctors from other related fields may be involved), analyze the clinical case and develop the most effective treatment regimen. The department's specialists provide comprehensive treatment because only a combination of several therapeutic methods can achieve complete recovery or long-term remission. The first-line treatment is surgery, the extent of which depends on the stage of the cancer process. Surgical procedures for cervical, ovarian, and endometrial cancers are performed in the department laparoscopically or through a transvaginal approach. Surgery is usually accompanied by chemotherapy. If clinically indicated, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and/or immunotherapy may also be carried out. In many cases, qualified psycho-oncologists are involved in the therapeutic process, whose work is aimed at combating depression and apathy because patients do not always manage to cope with the emotional shock after diagnosis.
An integral part of the daily work of the department's doctors is the treatment of breast cancer, the most common cancer among women around the world. The department has the status of a specialized Breast Center (DIN EN ISO 9001:2015 certificate), which indicates high standards of breast cancer treatment. Doctors at the medical facility are guided by the recommendations of the German Cancer Society (DKG) in their work and practice an interdisciplinary approach. The diagnostic stage involves individual consultations followed by laboratory tests, imaging tests (ultrasound, mammography, CT, and/or MRI), and a biopsy. Should breast cancer be detected, an effective treatment regimen will be developed for the patient, taking into account her needs and wishes. As a rule, treatment begins with surgery. For the department's breast specialists, it is important to preserve the affected mammary gland, so organ preservation surgery is most commonly performed. The advanced stages of cancer may require a mastectomy. In such cases, doctors offer reconstructive plastic surgery with silicone implants or autologous tissue to restore the aesthetics of the breast. In many cases, chemotherapy and hormone therapy are included in the treatment regimen for breast cancer. In some cases, radiation therapy and antibody therapy can also be carried out. Breast cancer patients can also receive psychological support whenever required.
The department also offers high-quality obstetric services. The medical facility has everything you need for pregnancy management in all trimesters, childbirth, and postpartum care for mother and child. Childbirth takes place in three comfortable maternity rooms designed in pleasant colors. Each birthing room has a special bath for water births. For pain relief during childbirth, obstetricians offer epidural anesthesia, homeopathy, acupuncture, and aromatherapy. If clinically indicated, the department's obstetricians perform C-section procedures using the sparing Misgav-Ladach technique. After delivery, both mother and child receive comprehensive care, and neonatologists conduct screening tests for the newborn. The department has a Rooming-in system, which means that a mother and her newborn child are accommodated in one room.
