Location
Hattingen is a city in Germany, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The city is located on the south bank of the Ruhr River. The history of the city has more than 600 years, and to this day ancient architectural values have been preserved here.
In the old city, most of the buildings are constructed in half-timbered style, which gives it a special atmosphere. The symbol of the city is the building of the Old City Hall dating back to XVI century. Also, the St. George's Church is located close to it. A feature of this church is a spiky curved spire. Another attraction of the city is the half-timbered Flat Iron House (Bugeleisenhaus) built in 1611. The strange shape of the house is dictated by the size of the narrow land on which it is located.
In addition, the city itself and its outskirts are famous for their amazing natural landscapes, so the lovers of nature and hiking will like Hattingen.
