Location
Viersen is a cozy and picturesque town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Viersen has interesting sights and regularly hosts cultural events, sports competitions, and folk festivals. Viersen is famous for its beautiful natural landscapes and offers many exciting hiking and cycling routes.
Viersen is a green town with many parks and gardens. Particularly noteworthy are the neo-baroque Old Town Garden, the Wild Perennial Garden with an infinite number of perennials, created in 1956, and the Jubilee Garden of 1999.
One of the most striking sights in Viersen is the "Fool's Mill". It was built in 1809 and now serves as the headquarters of the Duelken Carnival Society.
Visitors to the town enjoy strolling around the central square, where there are elegant ancient buildings, shops, souvenir stalls, coffee shops, cafes, and restaurants offering a wide range of dishes from the national German and European cuisines.
Another popular place for tourists and locals is the Viersen Gallery. It is located in the center of town, in a mansion from the late 19th century. The beautiful neo-renaissance building is surrounded by an old park. The gallery has several valuable collections, including masterpieces by such world-famous artists as Rembrandt, Rubens, Dürer, Picasso, and Chagall. The wonderful shady park around the gallery features a collection of contemporary sculptures, created over the past 25 years with donations from American businessman and former Viersen resident William Paul.
