About the department
The Department of Gynecology and Mammology at the Park-Clinic Weissensee Berlin provides the full range of preventive, diagnostic and therapeutic services in these areas. The specialists of the medical facility provide modern treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the female reproductive system, breast pathologies, various types of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. In November 2012, the department was certified as the Breast Center of the German Cancer Society (DKG), so patients can count on top-class treatment for this cancer. The department's specialists annually perform more than 1,800 major and minimally invasive interventions. Surgical treatment is carried out both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. It should be noted that the standard techniques for the surgical treatment of gynecological pathologies are endoscopic and microsurgical interventions. Patients are treated by an experienced and caring team of doctors who do everything possible to restore their health. The Head Physician of the department is Dr. med. Murat Koc.
The most important focus of the department's gynecologists is on providing medical care to patients with female reproductive cancers. The department has a specialized center certified by the German Cancer Society that treats uterine, cervical, ovarian, endometrial, vulvar and vaginal cancers. Since cancer is a complex clinical case, gynecologists, oncologists, radiologists, radiation therapists, specialists in nuclear medicine, palliative care doctors and other physicians are engaged in the therapeutic process. Each patient is offered an individual treatment regimen to achieve an optimal result. In most cases, the first-line therapy is a surgical resection of a malignant tumor or the entire affected organ (in the advanced stages of cancer). Surgical interventions are usually performed using sparing laparoscopic techniques. In some cases, laser techniques can be used. The operation is complemented by conservative therapeutic methods: chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, antibody therapy, etc. Psychological care plays an important role as well.
The specialists also admit patients with benign gynecologic diseases: uterine fibroids, endometriosis, cervical dysplasia, chronic pain in the lower abdomen, and polycystic ovary syndrome. In many cases, the department's doctors use only drug therapy. If this therapy is ineffective, then minimally invasive interventions are performed. The specialists also have successful experience in treating patients with various forms of urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse. These pathological conditions are treated with drug therapy, physiotherapeutic procedures, and surgical treatment methods.
Breast care specialists are responsible for the prevention, diagnostics, treatment and follow-up care of patients with breast diseases. As a rule, the specialists have to deal with breast cancer. In most cases, doctors manage to save the patient's own breast. If the stage of the oncological process does not allow this, women are offered plastic reconstructive interventions to improve their aesthetic appearance. Breast reconstruction is performed using implants and autologous tissues. Surgical treatment is often supplemented with chemotherapy, radiation therapy and antibody therapy. Modern therapeutic techniques combined with the highest professionalism of doctors and state-of-the-art equipment contribute to the effective treatment of even the most complex clinical cases. The department's certification by the German Cancer Society (DKG) as the Breast Center indicates that the treatment is carried out in compliance with modern standards and is also highly effective.
