About the Department of Pediatric Cardiac, Pulmonary, Orthopedic, Neurological and Psychological Rehabilitation at Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic Kokon Rohrbach-Berg
The Department of Pediatric Cardiac, Pulmonary, Orthopedic, Neurological and Psychological Rehabilitation at the Pediatric Rehabilitation Clinic Kokon Rohrbach-Berg provides the full range of medical services in its areas of specialization. The medical facility offers comprehensive rehabilitation programs for children and adolescents with diseases of the cardiovascular system, respiratory system, musculoskeletal system, and central and peripheral nervous systems. The department also has impressive experience in the care of young patients with mental and speech disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depressive disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The department is proud of its excellent infrastructure: there are many cozy rooms for individual and group therapy, a spacious gym, a room with a swimming pool, play areas, and sports grounds. The department has 2 facilities specially designed for robotic rehabilitation. The department's specialists work with state-of-the-art robotic equipment from the Tyromotion company. The department's doctors successfully conduct training on robotic rehabilitation simulators, virtual reality simulators, and rehabilitation simulators with gamification elements. The medical team of the department offers only effective rehabilitation methods, and each child receives treatment adapted to his or her individual needs. The Head Physician of the department is Dr. med. Robert Weinzettel.
The department's specialists provide rehabilitation treatment for young patients of all age groups from 0 to 18 years. The rehabilitation program for each child is thought out to the smallest detail, is as intensive as possible, and consists of a series of therapeutic measures. Physiotherapy is almost always part of the rehabilitation treatment for cardiac, pulmonary, orthopedic, and neurological diseases. Its goal is to relieve pain, improve motor function, and strengthen the muscular system, allowing the child to achieve independence in daily life.
In addition to the classical methods of physiotherapeutic treatment, the department's rehabilitation specialists successfully perform rehabilitation measures with the help of modern robotic and computer equipment. The use of such an approach to rehabilitation not only leads to excellent results but also turns the sessions with a physiotherapist into an exciting game with a high motivational factor for the child. The department has the latest generation of robotic devices, such as the Amadeo simulator for restoring fine motor skills of the hand, the Myro interactive therapy system for active rehabilitation of the upper extremities and improvement of cognitive abilities, the Pablo device for restoring gross and fine motor skills of the upper extremities, the Tymo rehabilitation device for balance training, and the Pablo Lower Extremity and Omego Plus devices for gait training.
Hydrotherapy is also an integral part of the rehabilitation program for children with neurological, orthopedic, and pulmonary diseases. This rehabilitation method has a beneficial effect on the child's muscular system, relieves joint stiffness, improves motor function, and stimulates blood circulation and the lymphatic system. The medical facility has a wonderful large swimming pool at its disposal for hydrotherapy.
Experienced occupational therapists also work in the department for the benefit of the young patients. They conduct individual and group sessions to develop, restore, and maintain the necessary daily living skills. The occupational therapist's role is to maximize the child's independence and autonomy.
The medical facility also employs experienced art therapists and music therapists, whose mission is to harmonize the child's mental state through the development of self-expression and self-discovery. As part of art therapy, children are offered drawing and crafts. As for music therapy, the department offers an active form of this therapy (the child independently plays musical instruments or sings) and receptive music therapy, which involves listening to music with a professional assessment of the child's reaction to what he or she hears. Art therapy and music therapy are offered individually or in groups, and the optimal regimen for a young patient is determined by a specialized professional.
