Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Vogl is an Ordinary Professor and Head of the Department of Radiology. He is also the Head Physician of the Department of Adult and Pediatric Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the University Hospital Frankfurt am Main.
Prof. Vogl graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, and he also studied at the Faculty of Medicine of the Hebrew University (Jerusalem). The professor's medical career began in the Department of Radiology at the University of Munich (Assistant Physician), after which he worked at the Charité University Hospital in Berlin. In 1998, he took up the position of Head Physician of the department at the University Hospital Frankfurt am Main.
The professor's main clinical activities are MRI and X-ray diagnostics, gastrointestinal radiology, interventional radiology, angioplasty, and chemoembolization. Chemoembolization for cancer is one of the areas of specialization of the professor and his medical team. The department performs 8-10 such procedures every day. This is an effective method for treating liver, lung, and pelvic tumors. It is completely devoid of the disadvantages and limitations of systemic chemotherapy.
Prof. Thomas Vogl's research activities focus on the development of contrast agents for imaging tests, interstitial laser therapy, in vitro spectroscopy, and new methods for hepatobiliary diagnostics.
