Allergology: Atopic dermatitis — Diagnosis and conservative treatment
Clinically, the allergic dermatitis is manifested by itching, redness and swelling of the skin. At the heart of this reaction, there is an increased sensitivity of the body to effects of specific substances, i.e. allergens. According to statistics, from 1 to 2% of the world population suffer from this disease. All patients require regular monitoring by an allergist or dermatologist.
The treatment of this disease is preceded by a thorough examination, which includes:
- skin surface examination,
- case history collection,
- laboratory blood count,
- skin tests for allergies,
- enzyme immunoassay,
- blood test for allergens.
According to the diagnostics findings, a specific causative agent of allergic reaction is identified. If possible, the treatment dermatitis is started from elimination of its impact. Additionally, the patient is prescribed:
- drugs to alleviate the disease symptoms,
- immunotherapy with allergens.
The patient is provided with individual recommendations for prevention of future exacerbations.
Upon severe course, the dermatitis therapy is administered in a hospital, where the patient is under close medical supervision.Hide
