Ulcerative colitis is colon mucositis. In more than 30% patients, the disease is accompanied by liver and bile duct impairment. The diagnosis is made on the basis of complaints, examination and case history. To obtain a complete picture of the disease, the patient is prescribed:
- complete blood count,
- biochemical blood test,
- abdominal ultrasound.

2 days prior to treatment, the patient is asked to exclude black bread, fresh fruit and vegetables from his/her diet. On the day of the procedure, the administration of laxatives is recommended.
Manipulation is carried out in terms of a medication sleep. The upper part of the digestive tract and bile ducts is examined by the gastroscope, and the colon by colonoscopy. Under the control of optical devices, the changed parts of the mucous membranes are influenced with drugs. pseudopolyps are removed, if required. During the intervention, the samples for histological examination is taken.
After the procedure, the gastroenterologist develops an optimum therapy tactics. The patient is prescribed a set of drugs suppressing the disease symptoms. S/he receives instructions on dietary changes.
Upon completion of the initial course of treatment, a control colonoscopy is carried out, which allows assessing the effectiveness of the measures. The patient is provided with recommendations for further prevention of exacerbations.
