About the department
The Department of General, Visceral and Thoracic Surgery at the Sana Hospital Duisburg specializes in general surgical interventions and operations on the abdominal organs. These primary include interventions for diseases and tumors of the entire digestive tract and endocrine glands in children and adults. The department is headed by Dr. med. Mark Lienert.
The main focuses of the department include all laparoscopic (minimally invasive) procedures, cancer surgery of the digestive organs, coloproctology and endocrine surgery. Particular importance is also given to the treatment of malignant gastrointestinal tumors. Through close cooperation with the team of the Department of Gastroenterology, the department initiated the foundation of the Abdominal Surgery Center, which provides even more efficient treatment and diagnosis of diseases of various abdominal organs. The Department of General, Abdominal and Thoracic Surgery is also a partner of the regional Trauma Center Duisburg and the Professional Trauma Association in the Ruhr region.

Patients rooms
The rooms in the Sana Clinic, Duisburg, meet the strict German standards. The essential safety equipment can be found in each patient room. There are also private bathrooms in all rooms. There are also the electric beds that can be adjusted according to the patient’s needs and habits. The orthopaedic mattresses on the beds provide adequate support for the spine during sleep. You can also use various devices in the room such as a laptop, unless you disturb the other patient in the room. Wi-Fi connection can be provided upon request.
The clinic offers single and double rooms. If you choose a single room, an accompanying person will be able to stay with you. A double room is shared with a patient of the same gender.
The enhanced comfort rooms are equipped with a safety box, a fridge and upholstered furniture.
Meals and Menus
The patient and the accompanying person are offered a daily choice of three menus. If you are on a specific diet for any reason, you will be offered an individual menu. Please inform the medical staff about your dietary preferences prior to the treatment.
