About the department
The Department of Gastroenterology, Cardiology and Pulmonology at the St. Lukas Clinic Solingen offers the full range of high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic services in the areas of its specialization. A team of doctors provides medical care to patients with gastrointestinal diseases, pathologies of the heart and respiratory organs. Doctors have special competence in the treatment of malignant tumors of the digestive system. The department's doctors are convinced that the key to successful treatment is accurate diagnostics, so the medical facility carries out modern laboratory, instrumental and endoscopic examinations. Treatment methods include various drug therapy regimens and interventional endoscopic procedures. The department also performs mini-laparoscopic interventions in cooperation with highly specialized surgeons. Extensive diagnostic and therapeutic options, combined with the high professionalism of doctors, form a solid base for providing impeccable medical care. The department is headed by Dr. med. Gia Phuong Nguyen.
Gastroenterologists focus on patients with gastrointestinal diseases, including pathologies of the biliary tract and pancreas. The specialists of the medical facility often deal with the treatment of patients with gastrointestinal cancers (stomach, colon, esophageal cancer, etc.), gastric ulcers and inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease). To confirm the above mentioned diagnoses, doctors carry out various laboratory tests, functional diagnostics and endoscopic examinations. Gastroscopy and colonoscopy are among the most informative endoscopic procedures. The department's doctors have long successful experience in the field of endoscopic examinations, so patients can be sure of their safety and effectiveness. In many clinical cases, gastroenterologists prescribe only an individually selected complex of medications. Endoscopic treatment is provided when gastrointestinal cancer, gastric polyps, stenosis and internal bleeding are diagnosed at the early stages. When performing therapeutic manipulations, doctors use anesthesia (sedation or general anesthesia), which eliminates discomfort and unpleasant sensations.
An important area of the department's work is cardiology. The team of doctors specializing in this medical field has the widest options for assessing the state of the cardiovascular system. The department has state-of-the-art equipment for electrocardiography, various types of echocardiography, cardiac CT and MRI, coronary angiography, 24-hour blood pressure monitoring, left heart catheterization, etc. To treat cardiac pathologies, the department's specialists use customized drug therapy regimens. The department's cardiologists cooperate with highly specialized experts from partner medical centers and perform interventions for the implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators to treat cardiac arrhythmias. Patients with cardiac emergency conditions receive medical care in the intensive care unit, including invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
The department also admits patients with respiratory diseases. Doctors use various laboratory and instrumental examinations, pulmonary function tests, etc. If the obtained diagnostic data indicate the presence of neoplasms in the lungs and bronchi, including malignant ones, tracheal and bronchial stenosis, bronchiectasis, lung abscess and other pathological changes, then the possibility of bronchoscopy (endoscopic treatment) is considered. The technique involves the introduction of a special instrument (bronchoscope) into the respiratory tract under general or local anesthesia, which avoids traumatic surgical intervention with thoracotomy.
