About the department
The Department of Oncology and Hematology at the St. Lukas Clinic Solingen provides the full range of medical services in the areas of its specialization. The department conducts conservative treatment of solid tumors of various organs, benign and malignant blood diseases. Upon admission to the department, the patient undergoes a comprehensive examination, including modern laboratory and imaging tests, after which the oncologists accurately study the results. When developing a treatment regimen, doctors take into account not only the diagnosis and stage of the pathology, but also the individual needs and wishes of the patient. During treatment, patients receive highly competent psychological assistance. The department also provides palliative care. The experienced team of the department's doctors guarantees the professional application of all modern treatment methods in accordance with the very latest scientific and medical standards. The department is headed by Dr. med. Mustafa Kondakci.
The department admits patients with various oncological diseases: gastrointestinal cancer, breast cancer, cancer of the reproductive system, oral cavity, lungs, as well as rare solid malignant tumors. Hematologists often deal wiht the treatment of leukemias, myeloproliferative and myelodysplastic syndromes, lymph node cancer, and other diseases of the bone marrow and immune system.
The department's medical team makes sure that each patient receives optimal treatment, including classical treatment methods for fighting against oncology (for example, chemotherapy, hormone therapy) and complementary medicine methods: naturopathy, diet therapy, therapeutic exercises and others. The specialists make every effort to achieve a high-quality result – a complete cure for cancer or a stable remission.
The department's doctors have unique experience in the treatment of myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The St. Lukas Clinic Solingen, along with the Heidelberg University, form the Center of Excellence for Myelodysplastic Syndrome. Thus, the very latest developments and the most effective treatment methods for the patients with this pathology are available here.
The department is rightly proud of its excellent results in the treatment of colon and pancreatic cancer. The patients with these types of cancer receive medical care in highly specialized centers that are part of the department and certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001 standards. In most cases, the main treatment for colon and pancreatic cancer is a surgical intervention, if possible, minimally invasive. Operations for the resection of colon and pancreatic malignancies are performed by highly qualified surgeons, for whom the priority is not only the complete tumor resection, but also the maximum preservation of the function of the affected organ in order to maintain a high quality of life for the patient. Depending on the particular clinical case, conservative treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and hormone therapy, is also conducted before and/or after surgery.
