Vegetative-vascular dystonia (VVD) is a complex of symptoms caused by a change in the activity of the autonomic nervous system. What is vegetative-vascular dystonia?

 

A VVD-like condition was first described by Da Costa in 1871 during the American Civil War. This was called "a soldier's excitable heart". The author described signs developing in the heart, respiratory and digestive systems, as well as mental disorders.

Previously, it was the term VVD that was widely used, but today it is absent from the international classification of diseases. Instead of this term, there are other diagnoses, such as violations of the autonomic nervous system or somatoform dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system.

Vegetative-vascular dystonia can be manifested by the following symptoms: 

  • syncope and presyncope;
  • a slight increase in body temperature; 
  • sweating;
