One of the most popular places among the tourists is Hagia Sophia, which is located on the Sultanahmet Square. Initially, it was a pagan temple, which later became an Orthodox cathedral, and then it was rebuilt into a mosque. The temple is of great architectural value. The walls of Hagia Sophia are decorated with twelve types of marble. On the left side is the famous "weeping" column. Another symbol of the city, which is adjacent to this magnificent monument, is the Blue Mosque. The interior of the mosque is decorated with over 200,000 blue tiles, due to which it got its name. The central hall of the building is covered with a huge dome, standing on four columns. The surface of the dome is decorated with inscriptions from the Koran.
The highest building in the city is the Galata Tower, which offers an amazing view of the entire city. The tower is equipped with an elevator, and it has a restaurant and a nightclub at the top.
The guests of the city also like to visit the main palaces of Istanbul – Topkapi Palace and Dolmabahçe Palace. The palace complexes include the most interesting exhibitions and can immerse one into the luxury that the sultans used to enjoy.
