Prof. Dr. med. Karl Jürgen Oldhafer
Prof. Dr. med. Karl Jürgen Oldhafer is Head of the Department of General and Abdominal Surgery, Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery and Hernia Surgery at Asklepios Hospital Barmbek Hamburg.
The professor was educated at the Georg-August University of Göttingen and the Hannover Medical School, and also trained at the University of Illinois (USA). During his studies, he focused on the treatment of liver diseases, and his first scientific paper was entitled "Ischemic and Reperfusion Injuries after Liver Transplantation".
Since then, Prof. Oldhafer has received numerous awards for his research in the treatment of liver failure, liver transplantation, virtual planning of liver surgery, and minimally invasive procedures for liver cancer. Under his leadership, the Department has become a Center of Excellence for Liver and Pancreatic Surgery and a Center of Competence for Surgery of the Upper Gastrointestinal Tract, and has been certified by the German Society for General and Visceral Surgery (DGAV) and the German Cancer Society (DKG).
In addition to his active clinical practice, Prof. Oldhafer conducts webinars on innovations in visceral and transplant surgery and regularly publishes scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals. Because of his experience and reputation, he often receives patients from abroad for treatment.
