Duodenitis is inflammation of mucous membranes of the duodenum. The disease can occur acutely or chronically. Often, it is combined with gastritis and ulcers of the stomach. The treatment plan is designed individually on the basis of diagnosis.
During the first visit, the physician examines the patient, collects his/her case history and prescribes a set of research:
- complete blood count,
- biochemical blood test,
- abdominal ultrasound.
In most cases, the cause of duodenitis is settling of Helicobacter pylori at mucous membranes, which causes their damage. Prolonged exposure of the duodenal walls to microorganisms can lead to development of tumors.
Urease test is conducted to detect H. pylori. When the positive result is obtained, we recommend additional tests, which allow diagnosing the malignant tumors at early stages:
- hemoccult test,
- gastroscopy subject to sampling of samples for histological analysis.
The disease treatment is aimed at elimination of its causes and alleviation of symptoms. In the event of severe forms of the disease, hospitalization is possible for complete control and emergency servicing by the medical personnel. To combat H. pylori, antibiotic therapy is prescribed. In order to improve the general condition, regenerating, astringent, antacids and other drugs are prescribed. In each case, individual recommendations for lifestyle changes and prevention of future exacerbations are provided.
