Plastic surgery: Hypertrophy of the labia (vulva) — Labiaplasty. Treatment
Labiaplasty is the most requested cosmetic surgery in the intimate area. The indications for the same are extremely elongated, thickened or asymmetrical labia. In some cases, the procedure allows addressing not only aesthetic but also medical problems (for example, it protects the patient from frequent urogenital infections).
Preoperative examination includes:
- consultation and examination by the gynecologist,
- a set of laboratory tests,
The intervention is assigned for the first phase of the menstrual cycle. The technique of anesthesia is chosen together with the patient still yet at the planning stage. Both local or general anesthesia is permissible.
The manipulation technique depends on the defect nature. Typically, the surgery is reduced to excision of excessive flaps of tissue by the surgeon, followed by stitching of edges of wounds with bioresorbable sutures. At the end of each intervention, the local anesthetic is administered into each labium, thereby avoiding strong discomfort upon anesthesia termination.
For 6 days after surgery, the patient remains in the hospital under supervision of the medical staff. The wounds are treated with antiseptics daily. To reduce the pain, the physician prescribes analgesics. Before discharge, the woman is examined by a gynecologist, who provides instructions for further care of the intimate area.Hide
